About me
Experienced, compassionate UKCP Registered Psychotherapist offering confidential short, medium and long term psychotherapy face to face. I have a particular interest/skills in working with anxiety, depression, problematic drug and alcohol use, HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis, cancer, dreams and midlife issues.
With 42 years experience in 'people work' I have a bright, spacious dedicated therapy room in a Georgian building in Central Exeter with good access to car parks and public transport. I also see clients online.
I am an 'approved provider' for several health insurance companies.
Training, qualifications & experience
Prior to training as a psychotherapist I was employed for over 20 years by local and national charities in the fields of mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis and homelessness. Alongside this, I was also self employed as a freelance trainer and consultant in the field of 'Drugs, Alcohol and User Involvement'. Through the course of this work I completed supplementary trainings in a diverse range of therapeutic approaches e.g. Rogerian Counselling', Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Behavioural approaches, etc. and on a wide range of issues such as 'Working with People with Personality Disorders'. Working with Clients with a Dual Diagnosis', Working with Drug and Alcohol Using Clients, HIV and AIDS, Working with Issues of Self Harm etc.
On completing a Foundation course in Core Process Psychotherapy in 2001, I undertook a 4 year MA in Core Process Psychotherapy at the Karuna Institute in Devon (validated by Middlesex University). This led to registration and accreditation with UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy). I am also a member of the 'Association of Core Process Psychotherapists' and 'Taunton Association of Psychotherapists'.
I continue to develop professionally through attendance at relevant CPD courses.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
