About me

Life really does throw challenges at us. And as humans, we can’t help but feel the impact of this and have a response to it – physically and emotionally.

Sometimes in the moment, we are aware of the relentlessness of the challenges and the impact on our wellbeing. Sometimes it is years later that we feel it. And sometimes we are unsure of what we are experiencing, why we are experiencing it or how to put it into words.

I will give you the time and space that you need to pause, draw breath, take stock and then together we can start to sort the jigsaw pieces of your experiences to form a clearer picture.

Our experiences are unique to us. Each of our pictures is unique. That is why there is no “one size fits all” in therapy. Using my integrative training and a decade of experience in NHS, occupational health and independent settings, I will work with you to find the right approach for you.

You and your needs will always be at the centre of our work.

I will be alongside you to support you to make better sense of where you’ve been, where you are now and what you need to move forward in the direction you want to go.

I know, from my own personal therapy, just how daunting starting therapy can feel. For so many of us having time for us to be authentically ourselves is a really alien concept. We might well feel that we have forgotten who we are. Be assured that therapy is that space for you to safely be or rediscover you.

We might worry that we have to have particular words to articulate how we are feeling. Please know that, just as there is no “one-size-fits-all” in approach there is no special vocabulary needed. Therapy is as down-to-earth as we make it. Sometimes we might not be able to find the words and that is ok. We can work creatively to find outlets for feelings that we struggle with.

Through the therapeutic relationship, we will have the opportunity to honestly confront things you want to change, to separate out the things you have control over from the things that you don’t and to find a way to navigate between the two.

It won’t be easy but just as I know how terrifying starting therapy can feel, I also know, again from the impact of my own therapy, just how rewarding and life-changing it can be. That is why it is my privilege now to accompany people on their journey. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

After a decade spent as a teacher and pastoral leader in secondary education, I completed the Counselling Psychology Doctorate (2015-2018), training in person-centred, cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic approaches. Since qualifying, I have worked in a variety of NHS (including crisis and older adult), occupational health and independent settings before setting up Compass Psychology. With a particular interest in the impact of trauma, I have completed the ESTSS (European Society of Traumatic Stress Studies) General Certificate in Psychotraumatology. As a Counselling Psychologist, I continue to engage with at least 40 hours of ongoing training each year.
