About me

Welcome to Clare Counselling

Choosing the right therapist can feel overwhelming, and I’m here to help you understand if I might be the right fit for you.

I operate a warm and welcoming practice located near Long Melford, Suffolk, conveniently serving clients from both Essex and Suffolk.

I work with individuals of all ages, including adults, families, and children. My specialised training enables me to support children and adolescents, as well as adults dealing with challenges rooted in their early experiences.

My areas of expertise encompass a wide range of issues, with a particular focus on family dynamics and relationships, and how they affect individual well-being. I am especially passionate about addressing early childhood trauma, drawing on my extensive experience in this area.

My therapeutic approach is primarily psychodynamic, yet I adopt an integrative style to best meet the unique needs of each client. This flexibility is especially important when working with children. I utilize creative methods such as play, art, and sand tray therapy to facilitate expression, as children often communicate metaphorically.

I emphasise a non-directive approach, welcoming whatever you bring to our sessions without judgment. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental; building rapport and trust is essential for effective therapy.

I understand that meeting a new therapist for the first time can be anxiety-inducing, and I strive to provide a warm, nurturing environment where you can feel safe and supported.

I have experience addressing a variety of issues, including:

Family dynamics

Parent-child relationships

Stress and anxiety

Friendship challenges

Identity concerns

Bullying

Self-harm

Anger management

Trauma

Bereavement

Eating disorders

Confidence and self-esteem

Divorce and family separation

Attachment issues

School refusal and phobias

Sibling relationships

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and support you on your journey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
