About me

Hello I’m Claire, an experienced, fully qualified BACP accredited counsellor. How are you feeling today?

I know this can sometimes be a difficult question to answer, but if you are struggling with anxiety, depression or relationship issues, I offer a safe confidential space where you can talk about what is going on for you and I will support you to feel happier and help you to live life the way you want. Maybe you have been thinking about starting or restarting counselling for a while but have not quite got around to taking the first step, maybe now feels like it is the right time for you..?

Free Consultation

I offer a free initial 30-minute ‘nothing to lose’ consultation appointment (for individuals or couples), so if you would like to arrange this please get in touch by clicking on the buttons at the top of the page. You can usually expect a reply within 24 hours of getting in contact, so if you do not receive a response please check your spam/junk folder as emails do end up there sometimes!

Booking a consultation appointment gives you the opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling and get answers to any questions you may have. We can get to know one other and have a discussion about what you need from your sessions which is really useful in helping you decide if my approach may be helpful for you.

Appointments can be online or in person whatever works best for you with online bookings available to clients nationwide and worldwide (except USA).

What to expect

Please know that whatever you bring to counselling sessions, you'll never be judged and will always be warmly accepted and respected for who you are. I provide a confidential safe space for you to talk and together we can look at what is going on in your life.

My counselling approach is based on a person-centred model, but I may integrate aspects from other therapeutic approaches (particularly cognitive behavioural therapy aka CBT) to meet your individual needs, but we can talk more about this together during your free initial consultation appointment.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified experienced counsellor with a first class honours degree in counselling and have supported individuals through my work with a National charity, offered counselling support for a local children's centre and have worked for a local community interest company. For the last five years I have been in private practice offering help for a range of issues including generalised anxiety disorder, anger issues, depression, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and self harming behaviours as well as those experiencing relationship difficulties. I work with adult clients (over 16 years) and also with couples.

I have a first class BA Hons counselling degree level 6 qualification as well as a level 5 Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Diploma and I am an accredited and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

All of my work is fully insured and I hold a current Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate. I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) (you can check this online) so you can be sure your personal data and confidentiality is protected at all times and that my practice complies with data protection regulations.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
