About me

There are times when life becomes difficult in ways we can readily identify: anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, bereavement, loneliness, or the pressures of work and family life. At other times, we may simply feel that something is missing, that we are repeating patterns we don’t understand, or that our lives have lost some of their purpose or meaning.

Counselling offers an opportunity to give these experiences attention and explore what may lie beneath them. My approach is psychodynamic, which considers how earlier experiences and relationships can shape our present feelings, expectations, and ways of relating to others. Through sustained reflection, counselling can help us better understand difficulties that might otherwise seem confusing or persistent.

I have a particular interest in the psychology of Carl Jung, including his ideas about the unconscious, the development of personality, dreams and creative fantasy, and the potential significance of archetypes and myth. These interests inform my broader approach to counselling, but the direction of our work will emerge from your own experiences, interests, and concerns.

I welcome individuals aged 16 and over, whether you are facing a particular difficulty or seeking a fuller understanding of yourself. Alongside my experience counselling adults, I have worked with young people at an independent school in Edinburgh and in a residential mental health setting for adolescents.

If you are considering counselling, I offer a free 20-minute conversation by phone or video. This provides an opportunity to discuss what brings you to counselling, ask any questions you may have, and consider whether we might work well together.
