About me

Hi, my name is Christine (known as Chris). I qualified as a Person-Centred Counsellor in 2013 and feel privileged to work with adults, couples and young people. In addition to my counselling practice I am also a qualified supervisor having the pleasure to supervise both trainee and qualified counsellors.

What is Counselling/Psychotherapy

Counselling/Psychotherapy offers a safe, caring and respectful relationship in which you are offered the space to explore self in ways which feel comfortable for you. Counselling can help with a wide range of issues including relationships, work-related matters, loneliness, sexuality, spirituality, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, abuse, trauma, illness, loss and bereavement.

How do I work

I offer a facilitative and therapeutic environment within which you will have the opportunity to work towards enhanced self-awareness and understanding and thereby identifying possible changes that may feel right for you. I am committed to openness and authenticity which will be gently and respectfully offered. Our relationship together is important to me and I would encourage you to bring to me any concerns regarding my practice so that our work can be based on mutual openness and respect.

What experience do I have

I have ran my own my private practice since 2013 working with adults, couples and young people who have come to counselling for a variety of different reasons.

Alongside my private practice I have 8 years of Loss and Grief experience working within a Hospice setting, with the last 3 of those years working as the service lead. My work in this setting involved working with pre and post bereavement, supporting patients, relatives and bereaved clients.

In addition, I have worked within the psycho-oncology team within a cancer hospital, offering short term online support to patients post pandemic.

More recently I am offering support to clients within a local GP practice.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
