How Counselling can help?

Counselling can help you to manage many of life’s challenges, from traumatic experiences and events, to mental illness such as depression and anxiety, or managing uncomfortable emotions, thoughts, memories and behaviours. Counselling can also help you to cope with grief/loss. It can provide general support when life becomes too much.  A supportive and warm helpful hand is there to help you through whatever is going on in your life at the moment.  It is a place where you can be non-judged, accepted and valued.  We all need a helping hand at times especially during the recent stressful and unpredictable times.

During the initial session

I offer the the initial session free of charge to allow us both the opportunity to ensure that we can develop a therapeutic approach which aligns with your needs and expectations.

During the initial session I will ensure a comprehensive assessment of your current wellbeing is taken  along with discussion of what your expectations of therapy are, boundaries involved and what goals you wish to achieve through therapy and what I can offer you.

I offer 1:1 hourly sessions predominantly in the evening after 6pm (Monday to Thursday).   These sessions are 60 minutes in duration.

Day sessions are available on request after 12pm - 6pm on a Friday.

These sessions are offered to adults 18 plus years of age through an on-line platform (Zoom) or whichever platform you are comfortable with.  I also offer telephone counselling appointments as well.

I am happy to offer as much flexibility as possible with regard to session times.

I am a a fully qualified integrative Cognitive Behavioral Therapist.  I graduated in 2020 and have over 200 hours of 1:1 client experience in relation to the treatment of Anxiety, Depression, self-esteem issues, Panic, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Grief, Perfectionism, Procrastination, relationship issues, and Phobias.

Since I am an integrated practitioner, this allows me to use techniques from various counselling modalities, a particular interest of mine is Compassion Focused Therapy which is particularly useful in treating feelings of shame and guilt which we all suffer from.

I will tailor treatment to you the individual whether you are looking for formal structure or an understanding ear (perhaps both).  People are unique and so the treatment plan should be as well.

As mentioned above I will work with you to ensure you receive a tailored and unique treatment plan which align with your values and goals.

Mental health has always been at the forefront of my interests and good mental health has always been but even more so over the last few years of upmost importance.  When we have good mental health life is easier to bear.  I am here to offer you a supportive hand and ear to help you deal with whatever life is throwing at you at the moment and to help you thrive in the future.

As mentioned above I am happy to provide a 60 minute free session initially to ensure we are a good therapeutic fit.

Training, qualifications & experience

I currently volunteer with Anxiety UK as an on-line integrative CBT therapist.   I also see private clients on-line and by telephone.

As advised above I am fully qualified CBT Therapist who offers an integrative individual approach to whatever your therapy needs may be.  I am also a registered member of the BACP and carry the title of MBACP and I am also a member of COSCA.  At this time I am working towards accreditation with BACP.

I am happy to offer you the first session for free to ensure you are happy with the type of therapy I offer and are comfortable with me.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

I also offer Compassionate Focused Therapy (CFT) which aims to help promote mental and emotional healing by encouraging people in treatment to be compassionate toward themselves and other people. Compassion, both toward the self and toward others, is an emotional response believed by many to be an essential aspect of well-being.  When we are self-critical and not self-compassionate is it very difficult to be kind to ourselves with life throws us a curve ball which we all need to cope with life's adversities to grow and flourish to the wonderful people who all are.  CFT can help with Anxiety, Depression, Self-Criticism, Anger and Shame to name a few.

Additional information

Initial session for free.  Thereafter £30 per session.  Since my therapy sessions are offered on-line this is reflected in the session cost.  I offer mostly evening sessions after 6pm and during the day on a Friday.
