About me

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns you can’t seem to break?

You may be struggling with anxiety, ADHD, depression, trauma, overthinking, emotional overwhelm, low self-esteem, or wider mental health difficulties that are making everyday life feel difficult to manage. You might also be wondering whether ADHD or another form of neurodivergence could be affecting how you experience emotions, relationships, work, or daily life.

I’m Cathy (she/her), a warm, approachable counsellor offering online counselling for adults across the UK. I support people experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, neurodivergence, stress, grief, relationship difficulties, and feeling stuck or disconnected from themselves, including members of the LGBTQ+ community.

As someone from a working-class background myself, I aim to offer counselling that feels grounded, approachable, and genuinely human. I understand that therapy can sometimes feel intimidating or overly clinical, so my approach is warm, down-to-earth, and free from unnecessary jargon.

No pressure to perform. Just a supportive, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, feel genuinely heard, and begin to better understand yourself at your own pace.

I’m a registered member of the BACP and NCPS, and work in a person-centred, collaborative way. Alongside private practice, I also work as a specialist mentor for neurodivergent students at the University of Warwick and have experience supporting adults through anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional overwhelm, and neurodivergence within both charity and counselling settings.

My aim is to help you feel less overwhelmed, more understood, and more like yourself again.

Training, qualifications & experience

Alongside running my private practice, I bring several years of experience supporting adults with a wide range ofmental health difficulties, with a particular focus on anxiety, ADHD, depression, trauma, and neurodivergence. I also work as a specialist mentor for neurodivergent students at the University of Warwick, supporting students to better understand their needs, manage anxiety and overwhelm, develop practical strategies, and navigate the pressures of academic and everyday life.

I’ve worked with the LGBTQ+ charity Body Positive, offering inclusive support around identity, gender, sexuality, relationships, self-acceptance, and sexual health. I’ve also worked as an online and telephone counsellor with Healthbox CIC, supporting people experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, low mood, and feeling stuck or disconnected from themselves. In addition, my training includes experience within the NHS IAPT programme, where I developed skills using a CBT-informed approach to support anxiety, depression, and other common mental health difficulties.

Academically, I hold a Master’s degree (MA) in Clinical Counselling from the University of Chester (Merit), alongside a First-Class Honours degree in Psychology from Manchester Metropolitan University.

I’m a registered member of both the BACP and NCPS, fully insured, DBS checked, and registered with the ICO, so you can feel confident that your wellbeing, confidentiality, and privacy will always be treated with professionalism, warmth, and respect.

The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
