About me
Are you feeling overwhelmed, low, or like you’ve lost touch with who you are? Maybe you're battling anxiety or depression, feeling isolated, stuck, or even questioning your own thoughts. These feelings can be heavy and it’s easy to feel like no one really understands what you're going through.
I’m Cathy (she/her), a warm, down-to-earth counsellor with a working-class background. I specialise in supporting people living with anxiety, depression, and neurodivergence, as well as those exploring identity and belonging, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community.
This work means a great deal to me, not just professionally but personally. I’ve walked some of these paths myself, and I bring real-life understanding alongside my clinical training. I’m registered with both the BACP and NCPS, and my approach is person-centred, collaborative, and grounded in compassion.
You won’t find judgement or clinical detachment here. No jargon. No silence that leaves you guessing. Just a calm, supportive space where you can show up exactly as you are, and be met with care, curiosity, and respect.
Whether you’re navigating a diagnosis, unpacking your past, or simply trying to make sense of things day to day, we’ll work together to explore what matters most to you. My aim is to help you feel more connected to yourself, build emotional resilience, and move forward in a way that feels right for you.
I work online, so you can access support from the comfort of your own space, wherever you are. If anything here resonates, I’d love to hear from you. You don’t have to go through it all alone.
Training, qualifications & experience
As well as running my private practice, I bring years of experience supporting people through a wide range of life experiences — with a particular focus on neurodivergence, anxiety, and depression.
I’ve worked with the LGBTQ+ charity Body Positive, offering support around gender, sexuality, relationships, and sexual health in an open and inclusive space. I’ve also been part of the team at Healthbox CIC as an online and telephone counsellor, helping people navigate everything from emotional overwhelm to feeling lost or stuck. My training also includes work within the NHS’s IAPT programme, where I developed my skills using a CBT-informed approach.
Academically, I hold a Master’s degree (MA) in Clinical Counselling from the University of Chester (with Merit), and a First-Class Honours BSc in Psychology from Manchester Metropolitan University.
I’m a registered member of both the BACP and NCPS, fully insured, DBS checked, and registered with the ICO, so you can feel safe knowing your privacy and wellbeing are always respected and protected.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations. In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
