About me

Hello, I'm Carrie and I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based in the North East. I work with Children, Young people and adults who are experiencing a range of difficulties and I am based within schools and Azure Therapy Centre in Whitley Bay.

I tailor my sessions to each individual and enjoy using creative interventions when working with clients. This could include using clay, paint, drawing, imagery and sand tray, or using a more verbal approach. Being an Integrative counsellor, I draw upon a range of approaches to help people explore their emotions, improve their emotional well-being, develop resilience and achieve their goals. I am passionate about supporting children and young people in a creative way to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Training, qualifications & experience

I can provide therapeutic support to those who are experiencing; anxiety, depression, relational difficulties, bullying, grief and loss, work stress, sleep difficulties, and dysregulation. I have also worked with young people who have experienced trauma.

I have a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Northern Guild, a Bachelor's degree in Care and Education and Childhood Studies from Northumbria University, and a Teaching in the Life Long Learning Sector certificate from the University of Sunderland. I have 20 years of experience working with children, young people and families in education, social care and mental health settings, working with diverse and vulnerable groups. Throughout my career I have gained a lot of experience working with those young people that are neurodivergent, and I am able to meet the needs of each child where they are, at the time of each session. Prior to working within private practice I worked within the charity sector for Barnardo's specialist trauma service Orchard Mosaic. This service provided therapeutic support to those children and families that had experienced bereavement or sexual abuse.

Alongside currently working in both Private and State schools within Newcastle Upon Tyne I offer private counselling within Azure Therapy Centre in Whitley Bay.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

During our first meeting I will carry out an initial assessment that aims to gather appropriate information around life history, education, support structures and goals for the therapeutic work. This meeting will also give us the chance to see if we are the right fit for each other, as I believe this is a very important factor of successful therapy!

I offer a free 15 minute phone call prior to all initial assessments to discuss this process further and for you to ask any questions.
