About me
Hi, I'm Dr Carolyn Soper-Tilbrook, a Clinical Psychologist with nearly 20 years experience working in mental health services across the NHS. I bring the knowledge and skills I have gained over the last two decades with me to every client I work with. I am passionate about empowering others to learn more about themselves and psychology, and how to work towards making positive changes in their lives.
I am kind, sensitive and down to earth. I try to put people quickly at ease, whether this is your first experience of therapy or you have sought therapy before.
With lived experience of neurodivergence in my personal life, I strive to create an inclusive therapeutic space for neurodivergent individuals. I am mindful that you are the expert of your experiences and hope to work in ways that accommodate your preferences; don’t be afraid to tell me what does and doesn’t work for you.
I also strive to provide a safe, inclusive therapeutic space to all LGBTQ+ individuals. The world feels incredibly divisive right now, and many communities are being targeted and attacked. If this has been your experience, I am so sorry. I strive to offer a space that feels supportive, safe and validating and that offers you compassion.
Whoever I work with, I always try to work collaboratively, exploring what types of therapy feel the best fit for you. I tend to work in integrative ways, drawing on aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy, compassion focused therapy, cognitive analytic therapy and solution focused therapy. Every person is an individual. Therefore, I believe every person may need something different; I love that therapy can be as unique as we all are and isn’t one size fits all.
Together, we can create an understanding of what has happened to you, how this shaped your life and your sense of self. Safely, at your pace, we can work on learning and developing skills and knowledge to build a greater sense of awareness, which can help you to achieve your goals.
Whilst I am based in the East Kent area, I can work with clients from any area as I am able to offer sessions online.

My experience:
I have worked in NHS mental health settings since 2005 in a variety of roles and I have learnt so much from each role; about myself, the people I have worked with and the situations I have been in.
I have worked alongside many different individuals in distress, supporting them with depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, trauma, PTSD, OCD, interpersonal difficulties, self-criticism, grief, loss, anger, adjustment difficulties, hoarding, behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia and carer burnout.
I have specialist experience working with people in the later chapters of their life: people adjusting to changes and challenges such as retirement, physical health, lifelong roles, loss and grief. I have worked with individuals who are struggling to find meaning and purpose, perhaps facing ageism, or less access to their previous coping strategies.
I have extensive experience supporting people by gently exploring and working through trauma that they may have carried the weight of, sometimes alone, throughout their lives.
I have had the privilege of working within many different services and teams over my career in the NHS including the following services:
- Older Adult Psychological Services
- Memory Assessment Service
- Care Home Pathway Implementation Service
- Specialist Home Treatment Service for People with Dementia
- Adult Mental Health Inpatient Services
- Adult Mental Health Community Mental Health Service
- Community Rehabilitation Mental Health Service
