About me

How can Therapy with Carol Help you?

Counselling is a wonderful tool for helping anxiety, depression, trauma, psychological and emotional problems. Stress and anxiety creates pain and discomfort in the body and problems can seem insurmountable. I know you can be helped and urge you take that first step in contacting me for a chat. I have over thirty years experience in helping people as a Senior mental health  practitioner with the NHS until l I stepped back in 2020 and became self employed as a counsellor using body mind approaches to manage anxiety generally, health anxieties, pain, trauma in the body, depression, psychological and mental health problems.

My basic nature is empathic and sensitive, a person who gains from supporting people on their journey to becoming healthy and well. I have worked in England, Wales and New Zealand as a community Mental health nurse, Counsellor and Yoga and Somatic Therapist. And I love working alongside people on their self healing journey.

Some of the Conditions I can help you with:  ANXIETY, TRAUMA IN BODY AND MIND, DEPRESSION, MENTAL HEALTH, BIPOLAR, PAIN, STRESS RELATED CONDITIONS eg IRRITABLE BOWEL, LOW BACK PAIN

I work creatively using the following:

  • Client centred Counselling
  • Somatics, mindfulness, yoga therapy
  • Sand tray
  • Interactive Drawing Therapy
  • Imagework
  • Emotional Freedom Technique (commonly known as EFT).
  • Somatic psychotherapy, especially good for Health Anxiety

Your first session

Attending your first session is a great achievement. You have made a decision and followed it through. Well done! The unknown is always nerve racking but I want to reassure you that I use a non-judgemental, empathic approach inline with the client centred humanistic counselling of my training. The key element of this first session is for you to feel safe and know that it is a confidential space in which to explore feelings and thoughts that cause you pain. There will be no pressure on you to talk about things that cause you discomfort, this is something you will decide yourself. I will be helping to sort out with you what areas you need help with, together we can begin to feel some hope of finding ways to resolve the pain you may be feeling.

My Background

For the past thirty years I have gained rich experience as a community psychiatric nurse and counsellor, helping people with psychological trauma associated issues, chronic anxiety and depression. Stress has a huge impact on body, mind and emotion and can be helped with counselling in addition to breathing techniques and gentle movement. I creative approaches in addition to listening empathically.

The Clinical Somatics I offer in addition to counselling is proving very effective in regulating the nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety and realigning the body. Suffering pain or discomfort can be very depressing.  I know this from having suffered back pain that disabled me from activiies I previously enjoyed. I'm delighted to say this has now been healed through a self practise of Somatics, a process that educates the muscles how to release tension, allowing the energy to flow freely and creating a sense of well-being and strength within the core of oneself. The outcome is also directly reducing pain as the muscles learn how to release tension. This also has a positive influence how you feel emotionally.

AWARD:  I was awarded the annual Celebrating Excellence trophy 2017 for supporting staff of Leicestershire NHS trust in their health and well-being. This gave me an opportunity to reach out and support NHS mental health staff in community teams where I introduced self care strategies and helped  teams focus on the need for a self care approach for workers. This proved very sucessfull lowering the rate of sickness of staff in some of the teams that embraced the self-care approaches.

NEXT STEPS Please do get in contact with me for a free 30min phone call, you're welcome. I look forward to helping and supporting you.

I work in Torbay, Totnes and Brixham in Sth west Devon area. Face to face, online and telephone sessions.

The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
