How can Counselling with Carol Help you?
Counselling is a wonderful tool for helping anxiety, depression, trauma, psychological and emotional problems. It gives one the chance to explore through talking in a safe and confidential space, to overcome feelings that have been painful, challenging and possibly at times disabling. In addition to talking. I have a background of helping people with anxiety, depression and trauma whilst working as a senior mental health practitioner within NHS community teams.
I can help you address the physical effects of anxiety through introducing using breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation. A large number of people find this approach has huge benefits in their Counselling sessions feeling they are addressing both the mental, emotional and physical pain. This helps address the whole of you. Feeling anxious, depressed or low in energy does have a negative effect on both mind, emotions and body.
Creative tools are a bonus to help the expression of feelings and thoughts when these are sometimes too difficult to verbalise.
These tools include:
- Sand tray
- Interactive drawing therapy
- Emotional Freedom Technique (commonly known as EFT).
Clients often feel
I have a clientel that includes children from the age of five years old with whom I use Play therapy. This is a great approach for helping children express feelings and emotions and build up a greater understanding of how to deal with challenges in life.
Your first session
Attending your first session is a great achievement. You have made a decision and followed it through. Well done! The unknown is always nerve racking but I want to reassure you that I use a non-judgemental, empathic approach inline with the client centred humanistic counselling of my training. The key element of this first session is for you to feel safe and know that it is a confidential space in which to explore feelings and thoughts that cause you pain. There will be no pressure on you to talk about things that cause you discomfort, this is something you will decide yourself. I will be helping to sort out with you what areas you need help with, together we can begin to feel some hope of finding ways to resolve the pain you may be feeling. The whole aim of this session is for you to feel comfortable in my presence and heard.
As a mental health practitioner working in community teams since 1991 I have gained rich experience in helping people with psychological trauma associated issues, chronic anxiety and depression. I offer a rich and creative approach of client centred counselling.
I was awarded the annual Celebrating Excellence trophy 2017 for supporting staff of Leicestershire NHS trust in their health and well-being. This gave me an opportunity to reach out and support NHS staff which I feel is crucial in such a high stress environment.
My basic nature is empathic and sensitive, a person who gains from supporting people on their journey to becoming healthy and well. I have worked in England, Wales and New Zealand as a community Mental health nurse, Counsellor and Yoga Therapist. And I love working alongside people on their self healing journey.
I look forward to helping and supporting you if you so choose.
I work in Torbay and Totnes area and do online counselling.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
