About me

How can Counselling and Yoga therapy Help you?

Counselling is a wonderful tool for helping psychological and emotional problems. It gives one the chance to explore through talking in a safe and confidential space, to overcome feelings that have been painful, challenging and possibly at times disabling.  In addition to talking, Yoga Therapy can teach you how to address the physical effects of  mental health issues through using breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation.

A large number of people find huge benefits from Counselling and yoga therapy feeling they are addressing both the mental pain and the physical pain together. This approach addresses the whole of you; feeling anxious, depressed or low in energy does have a tangible affect on both mind and body and both can benefit using Yoga therapy together with counselling.

What to expect in your first session

Attending your first session is a great achievement. You have made a decision and followed it through. Well done! The unknown is always nerve racking but I want to reassure you that I use a non-judgemental, empathic approach inline with the client centred humanistic counselling of my training. The key element of this first session is for you to feel safe and know that it is a confidential space in which to explore feelings and thoughts that cause you pain. There will be no pressure on you to talk about things that cause you pain, this is something you will decide yourself. I will be helping to sort out with you what areas you need help with, together we can begin to feel some hope of finding ways to resolve the pain you may be feeling. The whole aim of this session is for you to feel comfortable in my presence and heard.

My Background

As a mental health practitioner working in community teams since 1991 I have gained rich experience in helping people with psychological trauma associated issues, chronic anxiety and depression. I offer a rich and creative approach of client centred counselling including Integrative Yoga Therapy. I was awarded the annual Celebrating Excellence trophy 2017 for supporting staff of Leicestershire NHS trust in their health and well-being. This gave me an opportunity to reach out and support NHS staff which I feel is crucial in such a high stress environment.

My basic nature is empathic and sensitive, a person who gains from supporting people on their journey to becoming healthy and well. I have worked in England, Wales and New Zealand as a community Mental health nurse, Counsellor and Yoga Therapist. And I love working alongside people on their self healing journey.

I look forward to helping and supporting you if you so choose.

I work in Torbay and Totnes area and do online counselling.

Please feel free to visit my videos and learn more about how to use breathing techniques to calm oneself and regulate emotions.
