About me

Hi, I’m Carly.

If you’re looking for a therapist who sits silently in a cardigan and nods for 50 minutes — that’s probably not me.

I’m warm, down-to-earth and human. I believe therapy can be deep and meaningful without being stiff or overly clinical. It’s a space for real conversations, at a pace that feels manageable for you.

I work with trauma, anxiety, overwhelm and the lasting impact of difficult experiences. Alongside holding depth and complexity, I also bring honesty, openness and — where appropriate — lightness. I believe people feel safest when they feel able to show up as themselves.

My drive for this work comes from a genuine place. I know how important it is to feel seen and supported, particularly during teenage years or when navigating life’s challenges. That understanding continues to shape how I work today.

My Background

I am a qualified counsellor with over 10 years’ experience working across NHS inpatient services, education, local authority partnerships and charity-based counselling services.

I have supported both adults and young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, trauma, exploitation, abuse and the impact of adverse life experiences.

In addition to my therapeutic work, I previously managed a specialist criminal and sexual exploitation service in Bristol, where I led and supervised a team of qualified social workers and senior youth workers supporting highly vulnerable young people. This has strengthened my ability to hold complex and sensitive experiences with steadiness and care. Strengthened my experience in safeguarding, risk management and multi-agency working alongside direct therapeutic support.

I am safeguarding trained for both children and adults (Level 3) and currently work as a safeguarding lead. This underpins my practice and ensures I maintain a strong awareness of safety, boundaries and professional responsibility.

I bring professional experience — but I meet every client first and foremost as a person.

How i work

At the heart of my approach is relationship.

I work in a relational and trauma-informed way, adapting therapy to the individual in front of me rather than using a rigid one-size-fits-all model.

With teenagers, I focus on building trust first. Sessions are a space to talk freely, explore emotions and experiences, and feel respected — not judged or analysed.

With adults, we may explore patterns in relationships, self-worth, boundaries, stress, or past experiences that still feel present today. Sessions can be reflective, practical, or sometimes even gently humorous where it feels natural.

Therapy doesn’t have to feel intimidating or overly serious to be effective.

You’re welcome to bring your favourite drink or snack — and I may occasionally use humour where appropriate. I’m human too.

The Space

I work from a private setting in Biddestone, near Chippenham.

The space is calm and spacious, with access to a large private garden if sitting outdoors feels grounding. Nature can often support the therapeutic process.

This is your space for the session — comfortable, confidential and contained.

Next steps

I offer a free initial consultation so we can see if we feel like a good fit to work together.

This can take place over the phone or in person at my private practice in Biddestone, depending on what feels most comfortable for you. It’s a chance for you to share a little about what’s brought you to therapy and for us to explore how I might be able to support you. I believe the therapeutic relationship matters — so it’s important we both feel comfortable before beginning.

There’s no obligation to book ongoing sessions — it’s simply an opportunity for us to connect, ask questions and make sure the space and approach feel right for you.

If we decide to work together, we can then arrange sessions at a pace that suits your needs.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
