About me

Allow me to introduce myself: I am a father, a son, a husband, a brother, a good friend, a counsellor and psychotherapist.

People experience difficulties in all sorts of areas in their lives. These might be personal relationships, situations at work, problems at home, anxiety, low mood, ADHD, ASD, feeling stuck… You name it – I am sure you have yours! If these difficulties are getting on top of you or making you unhappy, it may be helpful to see a therapist.

We see a therapist not because we are ‘crazy’, or because there is something wrong with us. We simply seek the support of a professional, who is trained in how our brain works, and understands the complexity of our personalities in a very human way. Your therapist should be someone who listens very carefully to what you are saying, and helps you to explore any possible changes that you may want to make in your life.

During our sessions, you will be supported to reflect and develop strategies to navigate and manage issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, loss and bereavement, post-traumatic stress, paranoia, long-term illness, discrimination, abuse, loneliness amongst others.

My aim is to see your issues the same way as you see them, and will assist you to explore your different options and possibilities. We will look together at any decisions you may want to take, but you will always retain your rights and the autonomy to make the choices YOU believe are the right ones for you.

I have graduated from a BACP Accredited Institution and Post-graduated at Oxford University. I coordinate Counselling Services at MIND  – a large Mental Health Charity in the UK, as well as seeing clients privately. I am BACP Registered and adhere strictly to their Ethical Framework.

I also incorporate aspects of Dr. Gabor Maté's 'Compassionate Inquiry' Approach into my practice; having attended a number of his workshops, including the 'Compassionate Inquiry Approach to Mental Health and Physical Illness' led by himself.

Prior to working as a counsellor/psychotherapist, I obtained a degree in Law and a Masters in Business Administration, having worked in the corporate field for 25 years.

I am fluent in English and Portuguese.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
