About The Therapy Practice London
We are small group therapy practice providing Counselling, CBT and EMDR. We are passionate about demystifying therapy and increasing understanding about mental health. In our view, our mental health is something that deserves our attention, whether we are experiencing 'mental health problems' or not - it's similar to going to the gym - which is not only for obese people but for everyone that looks after themselves to get the most out of life.
Our therapists are qualified Counselling Psychologists and psychotherapists. We work integratively, which means we use different approaches following the client's needs. We draw from a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic and Humanistic Therapy and Mindfulness. We also offer EMDR, a fast and efficient treatment method.
Confidentiality and a respectful relationship are the cornerstones of our therapeutic work.
We provide long or short term therapy, depending on client's needs.
Common issues that we work with are anxiety (including panic and phobias), OCD, trauma, relationship issues, identity and self esteem, eating disorders, depression, loneliness, and (work related) stress.
Training, qualifications & experience
Dr Jennifer Opoku
Jennifer is a Counselling Psychologist who is registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS). She studied Psychology at Westminster University, London and went on to complete her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at City University, London.
Jennifer has worked in a variety of NHS settings including GP practices, Community Mental Health teams and Mental Health Resource Centres. She has worked with individuals, couples and families and has facilitated various groups.
Jennifer also works for the NHS providing psychological therapy for the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders as a therapist and supervisor.
Jennifer uses a variety of therapeutic models; she works integratively, and draws upon a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic, Systemic, Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Humanistic Therapy to inform her work with clients. She values working collaboratively and respectfully with her clients and is committed to tailoring the therapy sessions to meet the unique needs of each client.
Jennifer’s research interest lies in the use of mindfulness as clinical intervention. Other areas of interest include health anxiety, OCD, depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement, trauma, relationship difficulties, work-related issues, self-esteem and personal development.

Dr Bibi Schonau
Bibi is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS) and accredited EMDR practitioner. She studied Psychology at Leiden University in the Netherlands and went on to complete a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at City University in London. She completed Level 3 of the EMDR training.
Bibi has a broad range of clinical experience and has worked in various contexts including the NHS, private practice and charities. She has worked with diverse client groups, including adults, children and families.
Bibi works integratively, using different approaches following the client's needs. She draws upon a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic, Solution Focussed and Humanistic Therapy and Mindfulness. In addition, she is able to provide EMDR. She is committed to tailoring the therapy to the needs of the client, in which confidentiality and a respectful relationship are pivotal. Special interests include anxiety, stress, trauma, identity and life changes.

We appreciate that we may not be the cheapest service per session. We believe, however, by using highly qualified therapists and evidenced treatment methods, that we get to the core of the problem quicker, saving you money in the long run.
Sessions are charged at £85 per session with a psychologist or CBT therapist and £75 with a psychotherapist. Sessions are 50 minutes. Reduced rates are available for students or people on lower income. Please inquire.
We provide a free, telephone consultation before booking an appointment to discuss if our services are suitable for your needs.
We won't be talking you into therapy if you are not ready, or if we believe we are not the best service for you. We network with other professionals so that we can signpost you to other local services that we trust.
Different fees apply for insurance companies.
Although some of our clients come to us with a diagnosis, we believe it's important to understand and make sense of these 'symptoms', rather than just treating these without understanding. Understanding ourselves means we can intrinsically change and free ourselves from our past, making the most of the present and future.
