About me

Hi I'm Barbara an experienced, Counsellor and Therapeutic Supervisor working with Individual Adults, Couples and Young People. I appreciate how isolating it can be to be struggling with things and feeling there's nobody to talk to. I offer a safe and non judgemental environment, where you can talk and feel heard. The hardest part is taking those initial steps and finding a Counsellor who you feel you can trust. I strive to offer a place where it feels safe and you feel able to be yourself, allay some fears and start to heal and regain some control.

A bit about me.

Experienced and fully qualified. I have worked with Adults, Couples Teens and Children for many years in various settings, charities and schools, dealing with a wide range of difficulties and issues.I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and Accredited member of National Society of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and adhere to their ethical codes and practice.I regularly undertake training and have a strong commitment to continued professional development.

Work with Individuals

I have a lot of experience working closely with many adults, with various issues and challenges having worked in various agency and charity settings, as well as in private practice over the past 15 years. I have supported many clients, working collaboratively with an emphasis on helping them to increase their own self esteem and assisting in empowering them to process emotions and experiences to improve their own  ability to deal with difficulties in their lives including issues such as:

  • anxiety and depression,
  • self esteem and confidence
  • loss and bereavement,
  • anger and anger management
  • relationship difficulties,
  • Infertility and miscarriage,
  • trauma,
  • addiction,
  • isolation,
  • rape, abuse and domestic violence.

Work with Couples

My therapeutic work with couples includes assisting couples  experiencing communication difficulties, conflict, emotional distance, infidelity and trust issues, anxiety, and relationship stress. I offer a supportive and non-judgemental space where both partners can feel equally heard and understood. Together, we explore relationship patterns, improve communication, and work towards healthier connection, emotional intimacy, and positive change.

Work with Youths and Children

With valuable experience working with children and teens in groups and individually. I have worked with Place2Be, a children’s charity based in schools and in private practice providing emotional and therapeutic support building children's resilience through talking, creative work and play. Helping them to cope with wide-ranging and often complex social issues including:

  • bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma. Helping them to increase confidence and self esteem particularly when experiencing anxiety relating to issues such as relationships, loss and bullying.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
