About me

There are times in life when as a parent or carer your child may experience challenging situations and this may leave you concerned about their behaviour. As a young person you might be struggling to manage your feelings and may wish to make changes to your life.

My name is Barbara I am a qualified Counsellor specialising in work with children and young people, aged from 4 to 30 years old.

I am a qualified children and young people's counsellor and VIG practitioner based in Bedfordshire. I have over 20 years experience of counselling children and young people and have worked in a variety of different settings including schools, colleges and for the NSPCC all delivering therapeutic work. I am experienced in working with children who are experiencing poor mental health or who may have experienced Trauma and insecure attachment.

I am trained in attachment based interventions such as Dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP) and Video interaction guidance (VIG), which are used to improve relationships between children and their primary carers and reduce challenging behaviours.

I work creatively using a variety of age appropriate techniques with a child centred approach. I am experienced in a number of different issues affecting young people including:

  • trauma
  • sexual abuse
  • child sexual exploitation
  • relationship breakdown
  • mental health
  • self-harming
  • Anxiety Disorder
  • Eating Disorders

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed a European Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have specialised in working with Children and young people for 20 years. I have undertaken a number of different therapeutic courses which specialise in trauma, relationships, Attachment, mental health and young people.
I have attended many additional specialist training events and workshops in different subject areas, certificates and qualifications can be seen on request.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
