About me

I am an experienced therapist and provide my clients with a space to feel safe and comfortable and to be seen, heard and valued.  I work with things they bring to therapy at a pace that suits them.

Whilst I am highly skilled at working across many categories of psychological problems that clients have brought to therapy, I have a special interest in working with those affected by addiction of any sort, those suffering with anxiety and people who have experienced and are troubled by trauma.

I am good listener and strength-based therapist who explores clients resources and prepares them to feel stronger which improves their ability to cope with their difficulties and if they want or when they feel ready support them in working through their problems.

I mainly use a therapy known as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) that is scientifically proven to very helpful, especially when a persons problems can be traced back to upsetting events. Additionally, I use many techniques within EMDR such as cognitive behavioural, solution focused, psycho-dynamic and gestalt, all to help people work towards their goals.

I offer a confidential space for clients either via online video or face to face at my purpose built therapy room in the Knowsley area of Liverpool.

I am GDPR compliant and registered with the ICO.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience

I have worked as a therapist since 2014 in private practice and in the NHS, helping adults overcome common mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and trauma. I am also highly experienced working with children and adolescents (mainly age 10 upwards) where I have helped them overcome trauma, many anxiety disorders (such as general, panic, social anxiety and phobia), depression and PTSD.

I have led on EMDR delivery in my NHS trust now since 2019 where I am also a clinical supervisor.  Additionally, I have worked with those suffering from Mass trauma events such as the Manchester Arena terrorist attack.

Background, Training and Qualifications

I started mental health nurse training in 2010 and qualified as a Registered Mental Health nurse in 2013. I learnt about cognitive behavioural therapy as part of my training and then went onto train in psychological approaches soon after. I then chose to go onto further study and self-funded a Masters degree in Professional Clinical Practice. I am now a Fully Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (CBT) and Europe Accredited Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner.

Additional Trainings

Advanced Solution Focused Therapy

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (fully trained as therapist and skills coach)

Developmental Needs Meeting Strategies (DNMS)

Single Session Therapy

Intensive Therapy

Non-traditional Approaches

Most therapy is delivered on a weekly basis and that can be a good structure for a lot of people. However, I recognise that not all people can commit to traditional `weekly' therapy sessions and that some may prefer to have a `one off session' or have more sessions over the course of a few days or week to perhaps work towards their goals sooner. If you feel a `one off' session or an increased therapy package is something that would suit you better compared to a weekly session format let me know and we can explore this together.
