ABOUT ME

I am a fully qualified BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist with many years of experience working with both individuals and couples on both a short and long term basis. I currently work in private practice at Consulting Rooms across London (www.hampsteadcounselling.com) and now at our branch in Heswall, Wirral.

My model of counselling and psychotherapy is Integrative, which means that I will tailor my approach to suit your needs best and at a pace that you feel comfortable with. This model is a talking therapy only, but enables me to integrate different approaches, schools of thinking, techniques and methods, so I can treat a person as a whole, focusing on their mind, emotions, body and spirit.

I currently provide both short term counselling and also longer term psychotherapy (open ended) for both individuals and couples, in a comfortable and tranquil consulting room with free private parking in Heswall, Wirral.

WHAT TO EXPECT

INDIVIDUAL, PSYCHOSEXUAL, COUPLES AND RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

We start with an initial consultation to discuss the reasons for seeking help at this time and what you are hoping to gain from therapy. This session lasts for 50 minutes and gives both parties the opportunity to get a sense of compatibility and there is no obligation to continue working together. We will discuss the potential treatment plan at this session should you choose to move forward and whether short or long term counselling or psychotherapy is preferred.

Sessions are usually weekly and last 50 minutes and held at the same time and place. As we near the end of each course of treatment, we will review progress and discuss either extending our work together, or working towards an agreed ending.

ABOUT THERAPY

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Most people experience difficult times and loss at some point in their lives; you may be struggling to cope at work, have issues within your relationship, or lost someone close to you. You may find yourself feeling anxious or depressed, or have an ongoing sadness without really understanding why.

Even if you have a good circle of friends and family, you may still feel like you are alone with your fear and pain and feel a sense of isolation. Talking things through with a trained and experienced counsellor can enable you to share and explore your feelings and concerns in a safe, supportive and confidential space.

At The Counselling Practice we work together to create an honest, non judgemental and supportive relationship, to help with thoughts and feelings which may currently seem overwhelming and insurmountable. The experience of counselling or psychotherapy can be life changing, as we work together to understand your situation and issues more fully and support you throughout the process to feel happier and stronger and with a greater sense of control and personal fulfilment.

Counselling provides the privacy of a confidential one to one relationship and space to talk openly about yourself and explore your thoughts, feelings and difficulties without judgement. My approach is based on the understanding that difficult and damaging experiences in the past can continue to affect us either consciously or subconsciously throughout our life, which affects the way that we behave and feel in the present. This exploration can provide the welcome opportunity to resolve old pain and conflict and understand patterns of behaviour that may be causing current emotional and psychological distress.

The counselling room is also a place where the client can feel ‘held’ and helped to think clearly about their lives and to find the freedom to come to their own conclusions about not only how to live, but how to live well.

Please refer to my website www.thecounsellingpractice.com for further information and background about how I work, the consulting room location and my contact details.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
