About me

You may feel stuck, trapped, or that patterns are repeating and you're struggling to cope. Maybe you are in crisis for the first time.

I aim to provide a kind, honest, confidential space, in which to explore the challenges you are facing.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. As an integrative counsellor, I combine different theoretical approaches to suit your needs and pace. My training interweaves person-centred, psychodynamic and relational approaches, but also draws from attachment theory. Understanding your relationships; significantly the one which you have with yourself, can be instrumental in change.

At the heart of my approach is fostering a connection with my clients. Research has shown that the most effective therapy comes when the therapeutic alliance between client and therapist is a strong one; where clients feel supported and might begin to feel trust. With compassionate enquiry and my own reflections on your story, I hope to promote agency and autonomy in your life.

Therapy may feel uncomfortable at times, but it is this discomfort which often leads to a better understanding of oneself and potential change.

If you'd like to find out more, I offer a 15 minute telephone session (no charge) in order to understand what has brought you to counselling and why now? We can talk about my availability and you may have questions about how I work.

If we decide it is right to meet, I will offer you an appointment for an assessment session which will last for 50 minutes, charged at the agreed rate. It's an opportunity for me to find out more about you and for you to understand more about the therapeutic relationship and process and whether you would feel comfortable working with me.

My practice room is in  Hackney E8 in the grounds of St. Joseph's Hospice. It is  well located for public transport links.

I offer 50 minute in person sessions and also work online.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an integrative counsellor with a level 4 diploma in therapeutic counselling. I trained at the Mary Ward Centre in London.  Along with private practice, my clinical experience includes several years of working at a Camden based health charity for women, offering short-term therapy funded by the NHS and long- term, low-cost therapy to a richly diverse community.

I regularly support clients struggling with low confidence and low self-esteem, relationship issues, difficult family relationships, depression, anxiety, bereavement and loss, childhood trauma, sexual assault, identity issues, loneliness, body image and people-pleasing issues.

Having worked in complementary health for 20 years, I have an interest in how emotional stress and trauma may be held in the body, sometimes manifesting with somatic symptoms, chronic pain and illness.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
