About me

I am a kind and compassionate counsellor with over 10-years experience in NHS services supporting people through periods of depression and anxiety. I work by creating a safe accepting space where we can explore whatever is troubling you.

I think of counselling as time and space – time for yourself, space to stop and think – but rather than take that time on your own, we will meet there together. My role, if you decide to work with me, is to bring my skills and experience into the shared space of your counselling session. You just bring yourself, and a willingness to take a risk and talk openly.

People come for counselling for all kinds of reasons – periods of change or loss, relationship difficulties, past experiences or worries for the future. Sometimes there is a clear issue to work with, and a goal to work towards.  Or it could be a general sense that something isn’t right, an uneasy feeling that something needs your attention. Whatever brings you here to my page, you are welcome.

I am an integrative counsellor, with a predominantly person-centred approach. I have training and experience in different kinds of therapy, which I draw on when we are working together. I am happy to share more about my approach, if this is interesting to you. However we work together, my priority is always to ensure you feel listened to, understood, and supported.

I have worked with people from a range of cultural and social backgrounds. I have particular interest and experience in working with neurodivergent people, which has grown from my own late diagnoses of dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD. I am a LGBTQ+ affirming therapist.

What to do next

If you would like to find out more, contact me by text, phone or email.

When you get in touch I will ask when you are available for counselling appointments. If I have space in my diary that suits you, we will arrange a free 30 minute call.

Counselling is most effective when there is a good match between counsellor and client. The call gives us an idea of whether I am going to be the right counsellor for you.

Further information about my practice and the process of starting therapy will provided by email.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and am a Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression Practitioner and Supervisor.

I am BACP Accredited.

I trained at the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy, York University and the Metanoia Institute. I have additional training in CBT and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

I have worked in NHS Primary Care and Talking Therapies Services in Newcastle and Sunderland, and for Sunderland Counselling Services. My experience includes recent Senior Management and Clinical Supervision for NHS Talking Therapies Services.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
