Adv. Dip. Counselling MBACP MNCS(ACCRED)

About me

I am a qualified Counsellor and Supervisor with eleven years of counselling experience. I am experienced in working with most types of emotional and mental health issues. My background is in education, social care and mental health. I currently work with Mind, the leading mental health charity

I work with an eclectic mix of psychological and human growth and development theory to work effectively on a personal basis. I also work with Hypnotherapy.

In training to be a Counsellor it is a requirement to undergo our own individual therapy. Therefore, I am very aware that one of the most important decisions in choosing a therapist is to be able to connect with them. I am also aware, having been on the other side of the room, how difficult it can be to open up our lives, past and present, to a stranger. Reaching out for help at a difficult time in our lives, or to address issues in our early years that have never been resolved, can be one of the hardest things we ever do. How do you open a conversation to address these issues? As a Counsellor, that is my job, to make you feel comfortable in sharing these issues, in order to resolve them. To support you in learning more about yourself and your emotions and how to work with them. I aim to make you feel comfortable enough to be able to do this in a non judgemental, relaxed environment.

Training, qualifications & experience

My education, training and experience includes early childhood trauma and childhood abuse, although I also specialise in Relationship Counselling and Family Therapy. I work for a national mental health charity, have experience in schools and social care with mental health issues, alcohol and drug abuse, depression and anxiety.

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Counselling, Practitioner Diploma in CBT, Certificate in Transactional Analysis and Certificate in Supervision.

I am trained to Level Six Counselling and supervise other counsellors.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
