About me

How can I help?

I have experience of working with a range of issues, some of which include and are not limited to complicated grief and loss, complex trauma and PTSD, anxiety and depression, historical childhood abuse, low self-esteem and confidence. I currently work face-to-face and remotely via Teams. I can also work over the telephone; however, this medium is not suitable for EMDR.

My initial training was initially as a Person-Centred counsellor, but over the years I have adapted my style and through continued professional development, my approach is now an Integrative one. I have experience of working with both private and NHS clients. I am also qualified in NICE approved IAPT PCE-CfD Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression and EMDR.

I am passionate about helping individuals achieve their goal, no matter how big or small they may feel they are. I work in an ethical way and treat every client with respect, empathy and warmth, and feel very privileged to be trusted to share their experiences. I will work at a pace that feels right for you, in a non-judgemental and genuine way. I would describe myself as being very down to earth and caring.

I also provide EMDR therapy.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can treat mental health conditions which have resulted from memories from traumatic events in your past. It’s best known for its role in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but it can also be used to treat many other conditions, such as anxiety, depression and more. It can help clients process traumatic memories and reduce the emotional intensity and distress associated with them. It allows the brain to ‘unblock’ memories that can remain vivid and emotionally charged and help to facilitate ‘natural healing’ without requiring verbal recounting of the trauma. Unlike traditional talking therapy, EMDR does not require a detailed discussion of the traumatic memory, making it suitable for clients who find verbal processing difficult. When you undergo EMDR, you focus on the distressing memory whilst using bilateral stimulation (guided eye movements, tapping or auditory tones).

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
