About me

Hello, I’m Angela. I can support you by listening and truly understanding how unsettling things are for you right now. Beginning counselling can feel daunting, but I will provide a safe and welcoming space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. By starting counselling and talking about how difficult things are for you, you are taking the first step towards healing. It takes courage to reach out for support, so feel secure knowing that I will accept you and work at your pace.

I offer a free consultation to discuss how we can work together.

How I can help

I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and Clinical Psychotherapist. This means that I believe you have the answers within you- you know yourself best! I will not give you advice or judge you. I will provide the space and support you need to explore any painful and confusing thoughts and feelings. I can help you to make sense of these emotions, so that you can think clearly and move forward in your life. By understanding yourself deeply, you will accept and value yourself. This can positively impact your relationship with self and others around you.

I can offer long or short-term counselling, depending on your needs. Sessions are usually weekly, but we can discuss what works for you. The relationship we will build together will be based on trust and you feeling safe to explore the difficulties you have been experiencing.

Adults: I have experience of working with a diverse range of clients and I can work with most presenting issues. I can offer different ways of working, for example, traditional talking therapy, or creative expression (this is useful if you find it difficult to find the words to express how you feel).

Young people: Many children and young people enjoy the Drawing & Talking therapy, or Sandplay I can provide.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about what I can offer.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience

I am a qualified counsellor, member of the BACP and I follow their Ethical Framework for Counsellors. Also, I am half-way through my Master's Degree in Clinical Psychotherapy.

I have been a volunteer for two charities: Mind and Nightstop Communities Northwest. These roles enabled me to work with diverse adult communities and gave me experience with many presenting issues: anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, negative thoughts, domestic violence, grief, loss and bereavement, low self-esteem, families of people with addiction, and relationship issues.

In addition to my private practice (The Counselling Cabin), I am a school counsellor offering essential therapeutic work to children who are struggling with a variety of challenges. This enables me to work with the whole family and to understand family dynamics and relationships. I work to build children's self-esteem and confidence after traumatic life events in order for them to live more fulfilling lives.

Prior to counselling, I was a teacher for 20 years. This allowed me to see how negative mental wellbeing, or parents who struggle with their mental wellbeing, impacts all aspects of a person's life and their relationships.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
