About me
I'm Dr Andre Etchebarne, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
I work with people facing all kinds of difficulties, from stress and low mood to big life changes and relationship difficulties. Alongside this general practice, I have particular specialisms in chronic pain, health anxiety, and long term health conditions, drawing on extensive NHS experience in this area.
For clients dealing with a health condition or ongoing worry about their health, the toll is rarely just physical. It can bring changes to how you see yourself, grief for a body that used to work differently, strain on relationships and work, and, particularly for the men I work with, a quiet pressure to push through and not let it show. Whatever brings you to therapy, I like to work together with you, finding an approach that genuinely fits what you need.
Alongside clinical practice, I am Placement Director and Lecturer in Counselling Psychology at the University of Manchester, and a member of the BPS Training Committee for Counselling Psychology. I am also on the BPS register of supervisors and offer clinical supervision to trainees and qualified practitioners.

Training, qualifications & experience
I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
I hold a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from The University of Manchester. My clinical specialism is in chronic pain, and I have extensive experience working within the NHS supporting people with the psychological impact of pain, injury, and long-term illness.
Alongside clinical practice, I am Placement Director and Lecturer in Counselling Psychology at the University of Manchester, teaching on the Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, and I sit on the British Psychological Society's Training Committee for Counselling Psychology. I am also listed on the BPS Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors and provide clinical supervision to trainees and qualified practitioners.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
