About me

My name is Amy, and I am an experienced counsellor with over 13 years of practice supporting children, young people, and adults. I work with clients facing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, including grief, anxiety, stress, and life transitions. My approach is client-centred, honest, and supportive, and I offer a calm and confidential space for individuals to explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace.

Specialist in Child and Adolescent Counselling

Children and young people are at the heart of my practice. I understand that they often experience strong emotions without having the language to express them. I use play, creativity, and age-appropriate dialogue to help children process their experiences, manage emotional distress, and build confidence. My aim is always to help them feel safe, heard, and respected.

I offer sessions in schools, online, or in-person, depending on what works best for the child and their family. I work closely with parents and school staff, where appropriate, to ensure joined-up support and effective outcomes.

Services Offered

  • Individual counselling for children, adolescents, and adults
  • Grief and bereavement support
  • Therapy for anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm, and burnout
  • Support during life transitions, family changes, and personal crises
  • Mentoring for trainee counsellors and those starting in private practice
  • Training and consultancy on grief and emotional wellbeing in schools and workplaces

Therapeutic Approach

Therapy sessions are tailored to each individual. For children, sessions are interactive and developmentally appropriate, using therapeutic play and creative methods to aid expression and understanding. For adults, sessions are collaborative, offering space to reflect, process, and explore emotional patterns or challenges.

Sessions last up to 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly, fortnightly, or flexibly as needed. Clients do not need to be in crisis to attend therapy – early intervention is often the most effective.

Why Choose to Work With Me

  • Over 13 years’ experience across education, charity, and private sectors
  • Specialist in grief, loss, and early emotional intervention
  • Strong reputation with schools, families, and professionals
  • Flexible service delivery: in-person, online, telephone, or school-based
  • A professional yet compassionate approach grounded in practical support

Confidentiality

All sessions are confidential. For children and adolescents, confidentiality is explained clearly, and trust is carefully built with both the young person and their family. Where safeguarding or risk issues arise, these are addressed with transparency and care.

If You’re Considering Therapy

If you are exploring the idea of counselling for yourself or your child, you do not need to have all the answers. Therapy can begin simply by showing up and allowing space to talk. I provide a safe, respectful environment where individuals can be themselves, however they arrive.

You do not have to manage things alone. Help is available, and it can start here.

Training, qualifications & experience

I currently work as a private therapist for children, young people and adults across the UK and within several local schools in East Yorkshire.

My academic training includes a BSc Degree in Psychology from Hull University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from York St John University.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
