About me

Hello and welcome to a comfortable and non judgemental environment for you to explore the feelings that you are experiencing that have led you to seek counselling today.

Trauma, depression and anxiety

I work with a number of presenting issues and understand that trauma, depression and/or anxiety can manifest in many different ways. Therefore I adopt an integrative approach combining CBT, and working with the thoughts and beliefs that may be driving your unconscious process in your interpersonal world. There are a number of ways we can view these and sometimes bringing a bit of creativity into the therapy can offer great insight. However, central to this, I shall be led by what you wish to bring to your counselling sessions and ensure that I work at your pace.

The story of ourselves

Sometimes the process of our interactions with those around us can feel painful or disjointed. We can carry the burden of difficult early attachments with caregivers or family members. This in turn can develop an internal narrative as to how we view ourselves, which may not always be in a helpful way. I believe that every one of us has a story which needs to be told and heard. I can offer a holding and safe space for us to explore this. Be it over a long or short time period, whatever you feel you need.

The counselling space that I offer is tailored for you to explore whatever may be coming up for you and I would like to reassure you that no topic is off limits. I very much look forward to meeting you and hearing your story.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor and have  a BSc (hons) in integrative counselling.

I have worked intensively in the mental health field with individuals who have battled long and frequent stays in psychiatric hospitals. I have experienced first hand the effects of early life trauma and how these individuals have been misunderstood by only considering their mental health diagnoses. I have also worked as a volunteer for the Samaritans and as a counsellor for Mind and currently at Off the record.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
