About me

Exhausted from holding it all together?
You don’t have to carry it alone.

Are you tired of overthinking everything, only to still not land on the right answer? Maybe you're unsure of what you need. Maybe you're tired in a way that rest doesn't seem to fix. I'm Amber, and you're in the right place. I offer face to face therapy in central Edinburgh.

Therapy with me is a place to put it all down, the heaviness, the self-doubt, the “I should be coping by now” thoughts , without fear of being judged. Many people I work with come in feeling like they’ve been holding it all together on the outside, while inside they’re tired, anxious, or falling apart. If that sounds familiar, this is a space where you don’t have to pretend anymore. I promise to meet you with honesty and care.

Together, we’ll slow things down, explore what’s really going on underneath, and start untangling the patterns that keep you stuck. You’ll be met with empathy, respect, and, when it helps, a touch of humour, because sometimes a small spark of light makes the heavy things easier to face.

People often come to therapy feeling unsure, anxious, stuck, struggling with low self-esteem and self-criticism and leave feeling stronger, happier and more confident in themselves and their lives. Clients often say therapy with me feels:

Safe – a space to share even the thoughts you’ve never spoken out loud.
Steady – you can bring pain, trauma, and vulnerability, and know it will be held.
Honest – gentle truths, no pretence, no jargon.
Empowering – over time, you begin to see yourself and your choices differently.
Lighter – because healing can hold both tears and laughter.

This isn’t about quick fixes or being told what to do. It’s about creating the kind of safety that allows real healing to happen, where you can begin to let go of what no longer serves you and reconnect with who you truly are.

The first step doesn’t need to be perfect,  it just needs to be yours. If you’re ready, I’d love to hear from you. Head over to my site to book a free 15 minute consult. www.amberfieldgatetherapy.co.uk

Training, qualifications & experience

hold an Masters (Mcouns) in Counselling from the University of Edinburgh and an honours degree in Psychology from SACAP (South African College of Applied Psychology). I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and adhere to their Ethical Framework in all of my work.

I have been working as a therapist since 2020, supporting clients aged 12–70. I have experience working with neurodivergent clients, as well as people experiencing anxiety, low mood, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and identity-related concerns.

My approach is person-centred at its core, meaning I follow the client's lead and work at their pace. I draw on neurodivergent-affirming practice to adapt how I work, recognising that traditional therapy models don't always fit every person. I am based in George Street, Edinburgh, and work online, allowing me to support clients across the UK.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

The space

I'm based in a private office on George Street in the heart of Edinburgh, easily accessible by public transport with lots of bus routes nearby. The space is comfortable, private, and fully equipped, somewhere you can arrive, close the door, and just breathe for a bit.

What to expect

Sessions are 50 minutes and led entirely by you. There's no agenda you need to arrive with, just yourself. We'll find our way in together.

What if I'm nervous?

Completely normal, and honestly most people are. You don't need to know how to do therapy or have the right words ready. My job is to help you feel heard, not put on the spot.

Your first session

A chance for us to get to know each other, talk about what's brought you here, and what you're hoping might shift. No pressure to have it all figured out, because most people don't when they first walk through the door.

Ongoing work

Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly. Some people come for a few months, others stay longer. We'll figure out what feels right as we go, and you're never locked into anything.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

The office is wheelchair accessible, so please don't let that be a barrier to reaching out. It's also fully private and secure, meaning you can arrive, have your session, and leave without any concern about who might see you or overhear anything.
