About me
My core psychotherapy training is in the Person-Centred approach, and I integrate creativity and expressive arts such as Sandplay to support people to explore their trauma and/or difficulties in gentle and supportive ways. Working creatively is especially helpful for people who experience being in relationship difficult and/or find it difficult to talk.
My strengths and interests lie in supporting people who are experiencing the impacts of childhood abuse (or are affected through a family member, friend or relative), and domestic abuse. I am comfortable supporting people who may dissociate or who have found it difficult to make use of mainstream mental health services. I am also experienced and interested in working with people who are autistic and neurodiverse. That said, I am comfortable working with most issues and happy to support people to work with a variety of other difficulties.
I have learned more than words can say from the many children, young people and adults I have had the honour to support through my work as a trauma recovery practitioner over the past 23 years working for a national Scottish charity (Children First).
I am now retired from mainstream work and working in private practice from my home near Walkerburn.
It has always been important to me to relate to others in ways that are empowering and compassionate, so they are listened to and understood, and where I can provide the conditions that enable healing and growth.
In addition to my professional training and experience I value the personal learning and development I have gained through being a mum of four, gran and step-gran, wife and partner. The sustenance I gain through having a regular yoga and mindfulness practice and time in nature is essential to my mental health and wellbeing.
I offer sessions Monday - Wednesday, day and evening, in person, online and by phone.
Training, qualifications & experience
After qualifying as a Social Worker I moved into therapeutic practice, supporting children, young people and adults impacted by childhood trauma (neglect, physical and sexual abuse, domestic abuse & complex grief). For the past 23yrs I have worked as a trauma recovery practitioner in the voluntary sector. I have undertaken a variety professional training during my career to develop and enhance my therapeutic practice and personal development.
My core psychotherapy training is in the Person-Centred approach, and I integrate creativity and expressive arts such as Sandplay to support people to explore their trauma and/or difficulties in gentle and supportive ways. Where helpful, I will include psychoeducation, mindfulness and other tools that support and soothe the nervous system.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).
I am a co-founder of Survivors Unite, a Scottish local charity supporting adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse where I am currently chair for the trustees.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
