About me

Hello, my name is Alison, and I am a qualified and ethical counsellor. I offer a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and experiences, with the aim of gaining clarity, understanding them more deeply, and gently working towards meaningful change.

I recognise how important it is to feel truly heard in the counselling relationship, and I strive to create an environment where you feel secure, respected, and valued. To foster this sense of trust and openness, confidentiality is at the heart of my practice, giving you the freedom to express yourself without fear, judgement, or shame.

Practice Description

My approach is informed by a broad and diverse professional background, with each experience forming a unique strand that contributes to the whole of my counselling practice. As a Registered Nurse and Midwife, I gained a deep understanding of both physical and emotional wellbeing. My work as a teacher, specialist advisory teacher, and mentor has strengthened my ability to support and guide others. These strands come together to create a compassionate, well-rounded approach.

This approach is neuro-affirming and rooted in Humanistic principles, with a focus on self-awareness, communication, and relationships. I recognise the deep connection between mind and body and how our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations intertwine to shape our well-being.

Furthermore, to ensure I provide the highest standard of care, I engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development. I attend workshops and training to deepen my knowledge and refine my skills, enabling me to offer the best possible support to those I work with.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
