About me

Are you or your child facing challenges or feeling weighed down by the pressures of life, such as work, relationships, parenting, or school life, or perhaps, traumas from the past? Together, we'll focus on building a trusting relationship, allowing you to explore issues at your own pace while collaboratively reflecting on any challenges you may be facing.

I can tailor my approach to your specific needs and goals, so we may work on problem-solving techniques or engage in exercises designed to help you navigate difficult situations and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Should you prefer, we can incorporate creative methods using various prompts to support you as you explore any issues you may have. Additionally, we may explore EMDR as a tool to process any traumas or difficulties you may be experiencing. Goal setting is also an option, personalised to align with what you hope to achieve through our sessions. Ultimately, the direction of our work is guided by your aspirations and needs.

For your first session, expect a warm welcome and a space where you can set the pace. While I typically prefer an extended initial session of around 1 ½ hours, this isn't a strict rule, and we can adjust based on your preferences and availability. Whether we meet online or in person, our session will begin with a discussion about your expectations, my approach, and the structure of our work together. We'll also establish a contract outlining our mutual commitments.

If you find verbal communication challenging, don't worry—we can explore alternative forms of expression such as using cards, drawings, painting, plasticine, or sand. These creative methods can be highly effective for individuals who struggle with verbal communication.

When working with children, I typically meet with parents or caregivers before the child's first session. I'll ask you to provide detailed information about your child, including their development and family dynamics. This helps me tailor our approach to better meet your child's needs and preferences.  Ultimately, my focus will be on creating a safe and supportive space where your child feels comfortable expressing themselves.

I understand that you may be concerned about the duration of psychotherapy. The length of therapy varies, depending on factors such as the nature of your concerns, your therapy goals, and your comfort level in addressing them. Short-term therapy, spanning a few weeks to months, can be effective for managing specific issues or acquiring immediate coping skills, such as stress management. Conversely, long-term therapy may be necessary for deeper exploration and lasting change, extending over several months or years, especially for complex or longstanding issues. Ultimately, the duration of therapy is tailored to your unique circumstances and goals, empowering you to decide what best suits you. The direction of our work is driven by your aspirations and needs, ensuring that our sessions are centred around your goals.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
