About me
Hi, I'm Alannah. I am a warm, open and compassionate person who is simply looking to try and help make this world a little bit better in the best way I know how - to listen. I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and am familiar with the struggles our community deals with on a daily basis, but I am also just a person, who has experience with anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed and burnt out. No matter who you are, your background or walk of life; I want to be there to listen to you if you need to be heard.
I know that seeking help can be hard and sometimes frightening, daunting and overwhelming. My approach is to be someone who can listen, be caring, empathetic and most importantly, just be human. I wish to provide a space where people are free to just be themselves, without judgement, fear or prejudice and better work on understanding who it is you wish to be.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have studied at the University of Edinburgh and completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Throughout my training I have worked with a vast array of individuals struggling with all manners of personal trials and tribulations, from anxiety, depression, self-harm, gender and sexuality identity issues, abuse, eating disorders, life and family transitions to name but a few.
I have found that by providing a space where one can simply open up and explore their process, they can find room for improvements to their own self-image, attitude and outlook and perspective on life. That space is something I always work to foster when working with clients, allowing them to feel held while navigating a sometimes tricky and difficult path.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
