About me
My name is Alan, I'm a qualified and experienced person-centred counsellor. I'm an accredited registrant member of both the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and the Person-Centred Association (TPCA), and I work in line with their professional and ethical standards.
Person-centred counselling, developed by Carl Rogers, is a humanistic approach to therapy that emphasises the client as the expert in their own life. The core belief is that individuals have an innate tendency toward growth and self-actualisation, and with the right environment, they can resolve their own issues. This approach is non-directive, meaning the counsellor does not lead or give advice, but instead provides a supportive and empathetic space. Clients are empowered to explore their feelings, increase self-awareness, and move toward greater independence and emotional well-being. Person-centred counselling is widely used in various settings and is known for building strong therapeutic relationships based on trust and respect. At the heart of my practice is a belief in the healing power of being truly heard, accepted, and understood without judgment or agenda. This belief led me to train in person-centred counselling, an approach that honours each person’s unique experience and inner potential. I now run my private practice in Greetland, West Yorkshire, where I offer a warm, safe, and confidential space for my clients to explore whatever they’re facing.
As a person-centred counsellor, I won’t give advice or try to ‘fix’ things - instead, I offer a therapeutic relationship built on trust and authenticity. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and that real change happens when you are supported to connect with your own values, feelings, and direction. Working in Greetland allows me to offer accessible support to individuals across West Yorkshire. It’s a privilege to walk alongside my clients on their personal journeys, and I’m deeply committed to creating a space where you feel truly seen, heard, and empowered to grow.
