Ailis Martin, Registered MBACP,BA(hons), DIP Counsellor & Psychotherapist
I am a professional counsellor with experience of working with a wide variety of issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement, abuse and relationship issues. Emotional difficulties can often leave us feeling confused, conflicted, lonely and lost. I believe as a humanistic counsellor that we all have the inner strength to change these difficult aspects of our lives. I provide a professional and confidential one to one counselling service. This service is both short or long term work depending on your needs, in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment for adults and adolescents. I offer all my clients empathic understanding and unconditional positive regard.
Therapy is an opportunity for you to explore new coping strategies, make choices about change and develop a deeper awareness and better understanding of self. I believe the key to successful therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. Taking that first step can feel daunting, but I am a warm caring person and offer compassionate support to my clients, my aim as your counsellor is to be alongside you throughout your counselling journey.
The core of my work is rooted in the Humanistic Counselling Model and additionally, I may also draw upon a variety of therapy models including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), that are appropriate to the work I will be doing with you. I work in a collaborative manner with an open and respectful demeanour, creating a safe space for you to express yourself openly in order to grow, heal and regain control over your life.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Areas of counselling I deal with
An initial first appointment is a chance to explore what you would want from counselling and how together we could work towards that. Anything you wish to discuss will be handled with sensitivity and in complete confidence. I will additionally do the counselling contracts if you wish to work with me.
If you are unsure whether or not to continue with therapy, you are under no obligation to continue beyond the initial appointment.
I offer day and evening appointments, this would have to be discussed at the initial meeting.
Individuals Counselling - £45 per 50- minute session
I am happy to offer a free telephone consultation to discuss any questions you may have or if you would like further information, please get in touch via my contact form at the top of my profile.
I hold full Liability and Indemnity Insurance and an enhanced DBS Certificate.
My Private Practice is based Osbourne Road in Southsea.
