Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist (ACP)

About me

When a child or young person is struggling with anxiety, low mood, behaviour, or relationships, it can be difficult to know what is happening, or how best to help.

Based in Heaton, Newcastle, I offer child and adolescent psychotherapy as a way to think about these difficulties, often before there are clear words.

My work is psychoanalytic in approach and includes children, young people, young adults (up to 26), and parents. I provide a calm, consistent space to think carefully about emotional experiences at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am trained to doctoral level in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the University of Essex, through the Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (NSCAP). This is an ACP-accredited training route leading to registration with the Association of Child Psychotherapists.

My clinical training is rooted in NHS practice, where I provide psychoanalytic psychotherapy for children and adolescents, undertake parent work and contribute to multidisciplinary assessment and formulation within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

Prior to training as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I worked for over 20 years in NHS mental health services, supporting children, young people, and parents experiencing emotional, relational, and developmental difficulties.

I am a registered member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) and practise in full accordance with its professional and ethical standards.

My earlier training includes a BSc in mental health nursing (RMN), which supports my clinical formulation and capacity to work with complexity and risk.

Alongside my clinical work, my doctoral research explores how meditation can deepen clinical presence, enhance emotional attunement, and support resilience within long-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Additional information

I offer an initial telephone conversation and introductory meeting at no charge, giving us an opportunity to think together about what might be helpful and whether I am the right person to offer support.

From there, we may agree a short period of assessment or move towards ongoing psychotherapy, depending on individual circumstances. Sessions generally range from £60–£100, with some early morning and evening appointments available around school, university or work commitments.

I can provide a detailed guide to fees and arrangements on request. Fees can also be discussed where circumstances make this helpful, so please feel welcome to get in touch if you are unsure about what might be manageable

Further information

My approach is grounded in the psychoanalytic tradition and integrates reflective and attentive ways of working that support calm, presence, and thoughtful engagement within the therapeutic relationship. This way of working helps develop a deeper understanding of feelings and relationships, and supports children, young people, and parents in finding greater emotional balance over time.

I work collaboratively with parents and, where appropriate, other professionals to think together about a child’s emotional and relational life, always at a pace that feels safe and manageable. This reflective space can be particularly helpful for families experiencing anxiety, periods of developmental change, or relational strain.

The therapy room is based in Heaton, Newcastle, close to Chillingham Road, with convenient parking and good public transport links. I offer child psychotherapy, therapy for young people and young adults, and parent consultations in a calm and confidential setting designed to support reflection and emotional growth.

I also offer a limited number of flexible daytime sessions on Fridays, which can sometimes be helpful for initial conversations or where a regular weekly time is not yet established. Please feel free to ask if this might be of interest.

For brief or initial contact, you are welcome to send me a message via WhatsApp Business on the number above. Where more detailed or sensitive information needs to be shared, I usually move communication to email, which offers greater security.

Please note that email filters may occasionally direct messages to alternative folders. Where appropriate, and to ensure correspondence has been received, I may send a brief confirmation message via my WhatsApp Business account. I understand initial contact as consent to this; please let me know if you would prefer not to be contacted in this way.

I aim to respond within one working day where possible.

I welcome enquiries and the opportunity to think with you about what might help.
