About me

What Drew me to Counselling? Hello there! I have always been interested in how people learn and grow and I feel privileged to accompany clients on part of their journey. I have been described as practical, reliable, truthful and caring. The counselling therapy experience can be challenging but also very satisfying, so why not see how we could work together?

What I Offer - HELP FOR YOU TO BE YOUR TRUE SELF.  ARE YOU ANXIOUS AND FEARING the Future? Do you feel you are 'on the outside looking in?' Want to manage your ANGER? PAIN from the Past? TIRED of waiting for an NHS referral? TRYING to change your life and body? NEED HELP SOON? Support for :- anxiety issues (including anxious and avoidant problems), feelings of shame, guilt and vulnerability, obsessive love, weight control and body image for women and men, money and emotions, learning to be 'retired,' depression and low self-esteem, lack of confidence, phobias, performance enhancement; relationship issues; obsessive  love; personal injury claims, pain management, trauma support;  work related stress, for individuals, managers and teams; couples issues; jealousy; anger management; bereavement; adults abused as children; eating disorders; alcohol abuse and other habit difficulties;  physical problems such as IBS and discovering what you want from life! I work both in my own practice and for various organisations in the mental health, alcohol/substance abuse and employment fields.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES:-

Are you a manager or working in HR? Is attendance management or staff retention a problem? I offer work related Mediation, Reflective Practice support, Coaching and Counselling for teams and individuals. This service can be provided on site, by telephone or by Skype/Zoom. I offer both long term and short term counselling, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Trauma Focused CBT. Each session last up to an hour, or one and a half hours for EMDR.

Are you a 'Baby Boomer' (born in the nineteen forties to sixties) and considering what to do next in your life? Did you know that one in twelve people aged over 70 are still working, mainly part time? Do you feel that 'retirement' is an outdated concept? I offer life coaching specifically for anyone who is at this point, whether you are coming to the end of your working life, contemplating changing career or starting a business. The sessions are not about financial advice or pensions; rather the aim is to help you to make choices that feel right for you and at your pace. 5-10 sessions of coaching spread over 10 weeks could make a difference. What can you Expect? Expect to have a meeting where the focus is on what you need to discuss and explore. Although it's sometimes hard to believe, the answers to many of our problems are within ourselves; sometimes it just needs a skilled person to help you find the key to that locked door. What I do offer therefore, is a confidential space where you can be listened to and where we can look at possible ways through those problems. I believe people have the answers to their own problems and it is a privilege for me to be invited to work with you!

WHERE CAN WE MEET? Therapy can take place either face to face at my practice, in your work place, by telephone or  by Skype (which means that many clients are at some distance, including abroad, but still have the convenience of meeting for a session.) When can we meet? Times are flexible, and some week ends are possible. What could you take away with you? If you are willing to work on yourself then expect to take practical coping strategies that you can USE STRAIGHT AWAY.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY:  'I had been suicidal. Counselling with you helped me to get through that time' 'Losing weight has been easy!' 'Jen - I think I am doing really well now, thanks to your help.' 'I am using the strategies I learnt and am coping without any more therapy' 'I was going through a really tough time when my partner died. I thought I could cope on my own but I found it was too much - I'm so glad I chose to have some counselling at that  point.' 'I'm learning to love myself again!'

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
