About me

Counselling and Psychotherapy provides a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space where you can explore the areas of your life that are causing you distress.
There may be times where you feel confused or overwhelmed by your feelings and counselling can help you gain an insight and understanding of yourself and your difficulties.

My background experience includes working in Mental Health, and as a Special Constable, this has given me a deeper insight to other's distress.

I am a member of BACP(British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)and BPS (British Psychological Society) , I work with adults and adolescents for both short -term and long-term therapy. I am trained in EMDR and maintain a membership with the EMDR Association.

As well as my private work, I also have experience working in GP practice and I have previously worked in secondary schools providing counselling for adolescents.

I previously worked in a managerial capacity for a large corporate Employee Assistance Programme providing short term counselling and brief psychological interventions.
For over a year, I also provided therapy within a Brain Injury rehabilitation centre to those who have experienced brain injury and their families.

In addition to private counselling, I am a CEO Clinical for a specialist Complex Trauma organisation, having previously been a Clinical Lead in the same organisation.

I have spoken at conferences and delivered workshops to other organisations to raise awareness of the impact of psychological distress.

Due to my interest in trauma, I wrote an article on the impact of Childhood Sexual Abuse and birth that was published in the British Journal of Midwifery.

In 2018 I won a North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership award.

In addition to my BACP membership   I am also a member of the British Psychological Society.

I am currently studying for my Doctorate in Psychological Trauma at the University of Chester.

In addition, I am also a Qualified Ericksonian Hypnotherapist which I do on a private basis, this also helps with Anxiety and stress.

I also work as a Coach to other Professionals who are looking for support and direction in dealing with various work related issues.

Although based in Kilwinning, Ayrshire I work online through various platforms that means my clients can come from all over the UK.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
