About me

Sometimes life can just get too much! We can feel overwhelmed with strong emotions and not really know how to work with them. Are you feeling anxious, stressed, depressed, bereft, suffering with low mood? Counselling or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) could help you explore these emotions and help you find a way forward and gain control again.

Choosing the right Counsellor is very important and can be difficult especially when you are experiencing testing times. Friends aren't always the answer, so perhaps counselling would help. I entered into counselling 18 years ago believing that sometimes it truly helps and can make a huge difference to have someone actually listen to you. Many of my clients have expressed that when they finally plucked up the courage to try counselling, that it was honestly the first time they have ever felt 'truly heard'. My promise to you is that I will work with you in a safe, caring, confidential and non judgmental way in order for you to try and find some sense or clarity with the issue you are bringing.

I am an intergrated counsellor using person centred, CBT, EFT and systemic in my work. Each model is different and we can discuss which one would suit you better. Person centred counselling is very gentle with the belief that each individual has within them the capacity to change as they already hold their own answers.

I also practice IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy). This is a brief therapy that utilises simple eye movement and questioning techniques to change a particular thought pattern that may be problematic for you. This can work in as little as 1 session and I do not require any details of the problem or issue.

CBT is more directive and looks at improving your state of mind now rather than the cause of your distress in the past.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)is often referred to as "Psychological acupressure", the technique works by releasing blockages within the energy system which are the source of emotional intensity and discomfort. These blockages in our energy system, in addition to challenging us emotionally, often lead to limiting beliefs and behaviours and an inability to live life harmoniously. Resulting symptoms are either emotional and/ or physical and include lack of confidence and self esteem, feeling stuck anxious or depressed, or the emergence of compulsive and addictive behaviours. EFT has provided thousands of people with relief from all manner of problems and conditions, often in startlingly quick time and after long and painful periods of searching for a cure. The diversity of successful treatments have ranged from trauma and abuse, phobias, self sabotaging behaviour patterns, to deep set emotional conditions of anxiety and depression, addictions, physical illness, to name but a few. EFT works in the same way as acupuncture but without needles, only the fingertips are used on the meridians.

Systemic is normally used for counselling couples or any realtionship issue within a family, ie mother/daughter, gay couples, friends. I have also had extensive training in online counselling, this is very useful for clients that are unable to get out for various reasons. When I counsell online I use a platform that is fully encrypted to ensure confidentiality for all parties which is called Doxy.me.

I also offer Ecotherapy, this basically means we combine our talking therapy with nature. It’s been proven that nature can benefit both our physical and mental wellbeing, so what better than to combine the two.

I have been trained by Breakeven who specialise in people with gambling addictions. I have also worked for Boston County Council working in several children's centres working with families, children and adults covering a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, anger issues, relationship issues and many more. I am also a fully qualified couples counsellor working with relationships, this could mean marriage, mother daughter, father son. Basically any relationship of any kind. I worked with Cruse which helps people try and come to terms with bereavement.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and ensure I follow their Ethical Guidelines and Framework for Good Practice in Counselling. I am also required to have adequate supervision as stated by the BACP as part of the good practice. I am committed to developing my personal growth and professional development in order to always provide the best service I can to my clients.

I also counsel trainee counsellor whilst they complete their training as this is part of their requirement.

I am a married mother of 2 children aged 2 and 32. In order to relax I like walking, running and riding my motorbike.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

I offer a free 15/20 minute consultation to ensure we would be a suitable fit for each other, this is because the 'therapeutic relationship' is the most important factor of any counselling relationship. We can also talk about which style of therapy you feel would be better suited to you.

This is then followed by face to face consultation (approx 60 mins). All clients require this as it is the beginning of the therapeutic process. This session is about us getting to know each other and ensuring we are a good fit and for you to explain to me in more detail what the issues are. In turn I can explain to you how I work and from there we can look at the best way to move this forward for you. This is a true investment in you and your life, if you feel now is the time to make those changes then please get in touch. You are worth it!
