An Introduction to Systemic Therapy

Saturday 23rd June 2012
9.30 am – 4.30 pm

Cost:  £78.00

Trainer:  Graeme Armstrong

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to some of the fundamental ideas and practices in Systemic Therapy.  Most of these will centre around the work of the Milan Team (Palazzoli, Boscolo, Cecchin and Prata), John Burnham’s work on family therapy and therapy as a social construction as an exploration of our “storied selves”.

The workshop will include: a practical and down to earth overview and demonstration of systemic theory; using “Story” as a core and underpinning perspective in systemic work; exploring how thinking, emotion, body and spirit are all socially constructed: “its all relative”.

Participants will explore what’s different (and what’s the same) in systemic Therapy and the generation of multiple hypothesis in client work and their own systems.

We will look at using multiple hypotheses to liberate clients from rigid practices in individual and relationship problems and will use John Burnham’s Practice map to explore client resources, restraints problems and possibilities.

This is an interactive workshop building on people’s current experience and knowledge, providing 6 hours of CPD.
