About me

Hello, my name is Sheleen and I work as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist based in the Pelsall area.

You may be wondering if counselling is for you? Maybe you have been struggling for some time and have reached a point in your life where you want to address the challenges you are facing?

Counselling offers a space for you to explore these difficulties. Whether that be anxiety or generalised anxiety disorder, depression, panic attacks or a panic disorder, relationship issues, family issues, phobias, or maybe you are experiencing feelings of sadness or other difficult emotions. Whatever your circumstances, counselling may be the place where you can have time and space to explore, and where awareness can develop to help you face these difficulties.

I understand that the idea of counselling may be daunting especially if you have not had counselling before, and even if you have, it can still be challenging meeting a new counsellor for the first time.

Our first session would be a time where we would explore what brings you to counselling. We would also explore whether you would like to work with me as your counsellor and for me to discuss whether I think I can offer you what you need from counselling.

As a therapist I work in a way where I support you to become more aware of the choices that you have, so that you can use your own autonomy to develop and work through your difficulties. Together, we will work towards achieving what you are looking for.

I work as an integrative therapist meaning that I base my understanding as a counsellor on a number of different theories and modalities, and integrate them to help you achieve what you want from counselling.

I am committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, welcoming, confidential, supportive and non-judgemental environment. This can be a space where you can relax and get in touch with yourself.

I am a registered member of the BACP and I abide by their code of ethics.

Training, qualifications & experience

My counselling training started in 2006. I have been working as a therapist since 2011, and have over fifteen years experience of therapy, which includes, personal development, training courses, counselling and continued professional development.

I have experience working with anxiety/depression, work-related concerns, bereavement, rape, sexual violence, trauma and other concerns that individuals face that may make day-to-day living feel like a struggle or challenge.

I have experience working with issues that have recently developed, as well as working with issues that have been present in a person's life over a number of years, sometimes going as far back as childhood.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
