About me

What can you expect from Counselling with Me?

Many aspects of our lives can cause difficulty or distress. Life events, traumatic experiences, illness, loss and bereavement can result in symptoms of anxiety, stress, depression, mood swings or create relationship difficulties. These can prevent you from living life to the full.
It may be you are experiencing dissatisfaction with life or have lost your sense of direction and purpose. This may be a recent event that has left you feeling overwhelmed or it may be that you have struggled with issues that began many years ago and you are now ready to talk about them.

Counselling & Psychotherapy can provide you with a safe, confidential space to  explore your thoughts and feelings.
I can help you to explore your past, gain knowledge and understanding of the present and as a result, have more choice and control of your future. By making sense of difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviour you can make positive changes to resolve them. As you are reading this you have taken the first step towards bringing about positive change.

About Me

I am a fully qualified and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy with experience in multiple areas of the Counselling and Psychotherapy field.

I have clinics in Wincanton, Somerset and Basingstoke, Hampshire covering most issues that you may see your GP for. A non-exhaustive list includes: Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Difficulties, Living with Chronic Illness, Divorce and Work Related Stress. Please see my website for more information on this.

I also work with a charity for young women with cancer and with the Police Firearms Officers Association.

My past experience includes bereavement counselling at St Michael's Hospice, general counselling and addiction therapy at a Basingstoke agency, working with survivors of rape and sexual abuse and working with young adults facing emotional difficulties.

I am committed to providing a safe, confidential and non judgemental environment.

I work with individuals and couples.

When & Where can you see Me?

I offer flexible appointments in Wincanton and central Basingstoke.

What to expect in your first session

Firstly, a warm welcome. Together, we will look at your requirements and discuss the most beneficial way forward, that feels right for you. It is also the opportunity to see how we could work together. It is really important that you feel comfortable working with me and if you feel we don’t ‘click’ then I will be happy to provide you with referrals to other therapists.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

What problems are suitable to bring to therapy?

Any problem that persistently causes you anxiety and stress is appropriate. Essentially anything that is troubling you is appropriate for therapy. You can find more information on some of the issues I work with on my website.

How is therapy different from talking to a friend?

The support of family and friends during difficult times can be invaluable. However, If talking to friends or self help strategies has failed to help you make a change for the better  and you are frustrated with the way things seem to be turning out, therapy may be able to help you. Maybe your problems are too big or complex to handle alone or perhaps others have suggested that you need to get help.

Therapy differs from talking to friends as besides confidentiality, the lives of those close to us are inevitably intertwined with our own and with that comes the potential for advice giving, judgement or perhaps a fear of burdening them. Therapy offers a safe space where you can work through difficulties in a neutral, non-judgemental environment to concentrate purely on your emotional wellbeing.
