At a minimal cost I was able to receive queries from across the country which were appropriate to my fields of expertise. I came from a teaching background so initially I worked with children and families. I found that schools also accessed the website and from that, I gained employment in a number of different schools which I found interesting and rewarding. I went further in schools to develop courses and schemes including one which I named Talking Through Art which led to my giving a presentation at the BACP Conference. I believe other schools went on to take up this work too.
Through the Counselling Directory I also received work with children and adults with learning disabilities and I feel I made inroads into creating positive attitudes towards them.
As my career developed I went on to work with adults and gained employment with the charity Rethink Mental Illness.
So, all in all I have found that my connection with the Counselling Directory consolidated and developed my career. It gave me confidence to pursue and extend it.
I altered my profile as the years progressed and was pleased with the support I received in doing this. The website also changed as time went by and I was continually kept up to date.
