About me

My name is Zara Hickman, and I am the founder of 1-Voice Counselling

I work with adults and young people impacted by high anxiety, feeling stuck, or emotionally worn down by repeated patterns they don’t fully understand yet, or know what to do with. People often come to me when they want to understand what’s really happening beneath the surface. This might include Anxiety and panic, anger, exhaustion, self-criticism, or repeated relational patterns that feel hard to shift.

My work is about supporting you to make sense of your experiences and develop clarity and meaningful change that lasts. This promoting better mental health overall in every day life.

I also have a special interest in working with people who are ADHD or otherwise neurodivergent. I genuinely understand how challenging it can be, especially if you were diagnosed later in life and are re-making sense of your past.

You may have spent years feeling “different,” misunderstood, or being hard on yourself. Therapy can be a space to develop self-compassion, understand your needs and build strategies that suit how your mind works.

Where appropriate, I also offer psychoeducation to help deepen understanding and support clients in recognising how their nervous system, emotions, and past experiences may be influencing how they feel and respond now.

Reaching out for counselling can feel like a significant step, especially if you’ve been carrying things on your own for a long time. If you’re curious about counselling, or wondering whether I might be the right fit for you, you’re very welcome to get in touch for an initial conversation. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
