About me

As a former registered nurse and health visitor, and now a Level 7-trained, trauma-informed counsellor and psychotherapist, I bring a broad understanding of mental health, emotional wellbeing and the challenges we face throughout life.

At Aurea Counselling and Psychotherapy, I offer a warm, genuine and supportive approach, grounded in the belief that everyone has the capacity for growth and meaningful change.

People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, grief or significant life changes. Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed, struggling with self-esteem or noticing patterns that leave you feeling unhappy or stuck. Sometimes there isn’t an obvious reason for how we feel, just a sense that something isn’t quite right.

My approach is fundamentally person-centred, inspired by Carl Rogers’ belief that we each have the capacity for growth and change when the right conditions are present. I aim to offer a genuine, trusting relationship where you feel understood and accepted without judgement.

I believe that when we feel truly understood and accepted, we can begin to understand and accept ourselves more fully. This can open the door to greater self-awareness, more authentic choices and meaningful change.

Alongside this foundation, I draw on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques and psychoeducation where helpful. CBT techniques can help us explore connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviours, while psychoeducation can offer a greater understanding of why we experience certain emotional responses and how these patterns develop.

I believe counselling can offer both the opportunity for deeper self-exploration and practical ways of managing life’s challenges, always guided by your individual needs.

I offer individual counselling for people aged 16 and over, face-to-face in Altrincham and online throughout the UK.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

My qualifications include:

  • Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • MSc Public Health
  • BSc (Hons) Nursing
  • Additional training in trauma-informed practice
  • Training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques

Before training as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I worked as a registered nurse and health visitor. Throughout my professional career, working closely with people has been at the heart of what I do.

My healthcare experience has given me a strong foundation in developing trusting relationships, listening with empathy and understanding, and supporting individuals and families through a wide range of experiences and life challenges.

My therapeutic training is grounded in person-centred theory, alongside an understanding of other psychological approaches. I continue to develop my knowledge and skills through professional development, reflection and supervision.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I understand that taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, particularly if you’ve never experienced therapy before.

Our first session is an opportunity to begin getting to know one another, explore what has brought you to counselling and discuss what you might hope to gain from our work together.

There is no expectation to share anything before you feel ready. We can take things at your pace, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions about how counselling works.

Sessions last 50 minutes and are available face-to-face in Altrincham or online throughout the UK.

I believe that finding a therapist you feel comfortable with is an important part of the therapeutic process, and there is no pressure to commit to ongoing sessions.

You’re very welcome to get in touch if you’d like to explore whether counselling with me might be right for you.
