About me

I am a fully qualified and experienced Person-Centred counsellor with my own private practice in Greetland, Halifax. Additionally I work part-time for an EAP Health Company and the NHS. I was previously a volunteer counsellor at Noah's Ark Counselling and Psychotherapy Services and listener, leader and mentor at the Samaritans.

Working in the Person-Centred Approach means I offer one to one counselling, in a non-judgemental and non-directive way. I advocate this approach as I enjoy helping people realise their potential and become who they want to be! This approach particularly helps those who are drawn to exploring their own thoughts and feelings without being judged. Counselling is not about 'fixing' problems as such, it is about changing your understanding and view of the problems, enabling you to work towards living in a way that you find more satisfying. In essence, it is 'talking therapy'. I specialise in working with presenting concerns such as depression, abuse and sexual abuse, self-harm, eating disorders, relationship issues and anxiety. I work with teenagers from 17 years of age and adults.  More recently there has been an increase in people seeking support for pet bereavement which I also have personal experience in this field.

I offer a free initial consultation as I believe it is important for us both to feel comfortable working together in order to move forward in a professional therapeutic relationship. Counselling will take place at a convenient time in a safe and confidential space where you are able to explore issues that you chose to bring to the sessions.  I offer telephone, video call and face to face counselling. Together we will explore issues which are causing problems and work towards freeing you from them. In my experience, it can be difficult at times but also fulfilling and rewarding as you progress through your journey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
