About me

September 2024  -  New In-person sessions available in Central Bristol BS6,  please message to book in a consultation call.

Hello, I'm Tanya, a registered MBACP counsellor based in Bristol.  I have been offering counselling support since 2011 within the mental health and substance misuse sector.

If you're considering Counselling, you're probably experiencing some emotional challenges. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck or you're struggling with loss, relationships and uncertainty. Battling feelings of depression, worthlessness, anxiety, or stress, you may even be experiencing a variety of physical symptoms.

I offer confidential private 1-1 counselling individual adults (+18's) of all ages on a variety of issues and have specialist knowledge and experience within:

  • Alcohol addiction
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement grief and loss
  • Depression and low mood
  • Feeling stuck - patterns of thinking and behaviours
  • Low self-confidence, self-esteem, belief
  • Life changes
  • Relationships
  • Stress and burnout

I don’t believe there is a ‘one size fits all’ solution to counselling, everyone is unique, and our bespoke one to one sessions of counselling will reflect this.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a FdSc in Counselling from the University of Bristol. In my professional practice I work as a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, which basically means you are at the centre of our work and will steer the direction we go in. I will cherry-pick from a variety of appropriate therapeutic counselling approaches to help and guide the process. I have over 8 years’ experience working with the following approaches in:

  • Person Centred,
  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT),
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI),
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
  • Transactional Analysis (TA)

I have continued to develop my knowledge and have a high level of experience working in the field of Mental Health and Addiction. Offering counselling support at The Addiction Recovery Agency, Bristol Drugs Project, and Developing Health and Independence. Completing additional training in:

  • Gamcare - gambling counselling training,
  • Neuropharmacology and Drugs Training,
  • RCGP certificate in the management of alcohol issues
  • Mental Health First Aid,
  • ASSIST suicide prevention
  • Mindfulness training
  • ACT Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Which have all given me a great foundation in supporting people with a vast array of mental, emotional, social and addictive behavioural issues, both 1-1 and within group sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
