About me

My name is Dr Tanya McDonnaugh and I am an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist (DClinPsy). I am experienced at assessing, and treating most psychological, emotional, behavioural and relationship difficulties, big and small.

Being human can be a wonderful experience, full of joy and connection, but it can also be overwhelming, bewildering, and exhausting.  As humans we are blessed with an array of emotions and drives, but this can leave us feeling confused or conflicted. Our threat detection system can set of false alarms that cause us to feel anxious in situations that are safe, making it difficult to do the things we want to do.

It’s no wonder many of us end up repeating unhelpful behaviours that defeat our interests, despite our knowledge and best intentions. Stuck in cycles that feel familiar but counterproductive, we often want change but don’t know how to make this happen, sometimes we need help.

You might be struggling with a specific problem like anxiety or low mood, or maybe you just have a sense that you aren't functioning at your best. Perhaps you have noticed difficulties in relationships, with your self-esteem, or in your ability to manage your emotions.

We will work together in a safe, non-judgmental, and skilled environment to achieve real change, rather than just a 'sticking plaster'. I provide services to adults, children and young people, families, and those looking for adoption support, with a specialism in attachment, trauma and emotional healing using evidence-based treatments such as: CBT, EMDR, ACT, and Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT).

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist, I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) and an undergraduate degree in Psychology (BSc Psychology). I am also accredited with the Association of Family Therapy.

I completed my Clinical Psychology training at UCL (University College London) and have over 10 years' experience working in the NHS and local authority settings in adult and child mental health.

I am trained in a range of evidence-based treatments including: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Systemic Therapy,  Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Attachment based therapies like Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).

I provide services to adults, children and young people, families, and those looking for adoption support.
