About me

Hi, I'm Susannah. Choosing a counsellor can feel overwhelming, and it takes real courage to take that first step toward seeking help. Let me share a little about myself and how I work.

I understand that each person is unique, and life’s challenges affect everyone differently. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to counselling, which is why I draw on a range of therapeutic techniques. For some, practical strategies to address thought patterns may be most effective, while others may benefit from exploring unconscious dynamics and early life experiences. This flexible approach allows me to provide a safe, confidential space to help you navigate challenges like low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, abuse, suicidal thoughts, or relationship concerns.

How I work

Counselling is about moving forward, not just reflecting. It’s a collaborative process where you can freely share your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, identifying what may be holding you back. We can work on developing practical skills to build resilience and support your mental and emotional well-being.

You may want to heal from past trauma or loss, finding a compassionate space to process grief and pain. Or perhaps you’re looking to improve relationships and create more meaningful connections.

Whatever your needs, sessions will be tailored to you, supporting your unique needs and helping you move toward positive change.

If you would like to know more about how I can support you visit my website: www.spaciousplace-counselling.org.uk

What to expect

  • Counselling sessions are 50 minutes.
  • There’s no set limit to the number of sessions we can have. I typically meet with clients once a week
  • Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll discuss what brings you to counselling, your goals, and any concerns you have.
  • At 6 weeks, we’ll pause to reflect on your progress and how our work is going. It’s a chance to revisit your goals, explore what’s been helpful or challenging, and adjust our approach to ensure it continues to meet your needs.

Practical information

I offer both online and in-person sessions for individuals, 18+.

I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation via online or telephone. This session allows us to discuss your needs and determine how we can work together effectively.

Experience

I’ve had the privilege of supporting many different people through their unique challenges. I started as a counsellor with a charity in Winchester, supporting adults through a variety of challenges.

Right now, I’m part of a dedicated team at a sexual and domestic abuse charity in Southampton, where I support people during some of their toughest moments. I’m also the Assistant Head of Counselling for a Winchester-based charity, where I support the counselling work they do.

Beyond my counselling roles, I’m proud to be on the Board of Trustees for a youth charity, working to make a difference in the lives of young people.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ACC
