About me

Hello & Welcome

My name is Susan and I am a counsellor providing both short and long-term therapy to adult individuals in Bristol and Bath in person and also online or via the telephone.

No matter what you bring to counselling, I offer a kind, safe, welcoming space for you to explore your concerns at your own pace.

Your counselling journey will be a unique reflection of you and your needs.

Counselling lends itself both to short-term work, for example, to help you identify current challenges and action changes and longer term work, if you wish perhaps to gain a better understanding of established behaviour patterns or how your childhood, relationships or past development can continue to impact you.

You may already know what brings you to counselling or you may discover this on your journey.

You may find counselling beneficial in the following areas:

  • to experience your feelings and to be fully heard
  • to evaluate what is helpful to you and what to let go of
  • to safely explore memories or experiences
  • to gain a clearer understanding of who you are and what you want
  • to consider your behaviour patterns, coping skills and resilience.
  • to evaluate your relationships and interactions with others.
  • to identify and action change in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully-qualified counsellor trained in humanistic and integrative counselling this means my approach is drawn from a range of theories which can be tailored to your individual needs.

I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by their ethical guidelines. I have regular professional development and clinical supervision. I hold professional insurance and ICO membership.

For many years I worked in Healthcare and then within the Public Sector emergency services. I therefore have a working and lived knowledge of the particular aspects of these challenging roles and all that they bring in terms of the personal effect they can have on an individual.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
