Couple's Therapist (MBACP)

About us

My expertise is relationships. Book a free online 45-minute consultation, directly through my website calendar. No commitment, just a chance to talk and see if we're the right fit.

Relationships don't often break down overnight. By the time most couples come to me, there's been a long build-up: the same arguments on repeat, growing distance, or a specific rupture that's left you both stuck. You might be wondering whether things can actually change, or whether you've simply grown apart.

Others couples come during a difficult season; illness, a big life change, a transition they want to navigate together. Wherever you are, the work is the same: understanding each other more deeply and building the tools to face it together.

I work with couples to understand the patterns underneath the conflict and to build the practical skills to actually shift them. My approach draws on Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, and Imago Relationship Therapy, tailored to what works for both of you specifically. I make sure to create a space where both of you feel genuinely heard, but I won't let you go around in circles indefinitely: I'll challenge you when it's useful.

Sessions are online or in-person, and I offer flexible formats including intensive short-term work if you want to make progress quickly.

Your first step is a free 45-minute consultation. No commitment, just a chance to talk and see if we're the right fit. Book yours directly through my website's calendar: www.steffiboutreux.com.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a CPCAB-accredited Diploma in Relationship Counselling and completed my undergraduate degree across the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of California, Berkeley. I'm a registered member of the BACP (MBACP).

I specialise in couples therapy, with a particular focus on high-conflict relationships, emotional disconnection, and communication breakdown. Before moving into private practice, I worked as a relationship counsellor for Relate and The Relationship Service, and as a group therapy facilitator at HMP Wormwood Scrubs and for the NHS.

I'm also a qualified yoga and meditation teacher, and where it's useful, I bring mindfulness and somatic awareness into my work, particularly around conflict, stress, and emotional regulation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
