About us

Sesame Counselling Service was set up in the early 1990s to offer a donation-based counselling service to the residents of Newport and surrounding areas.

Sesame is targeted toward people on lower incomes who would otherwise struggle to pay for counselling and offer both telephone and face-to-face counselling services.

Sesame is a Charity and therefore we rely on donations to run our services. Our prices range from £10 -£30 per session, and the donation will be discussed at your first session.

We are open from 6 – 9 pm on Tuesday evenings throughout the year. We are currently located in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Newport NP20 5FA.  (Although we are based in a Church we are a secular organisation and are not affiliated with the Church.)

To arrange counselling for yourself or to discuss anything else, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us on 07450 401688.

Training, qualifications & experience

Sesame has a small team of volunteer counsellors who come from a variety of backgrounds.

We seek to encourage the particular style and skill that each counsellor contributes while keeping our focus firmly on our client's needs.

As a member of the BACP, Sesame fully subscribes to its code of ethics and practice.

Member organisations *

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
